Amblin Television has acquired the rights to Akira Kurosawa’s acclaimed film “Rashomon” with plans to develop it as an anthology series.
Each season of the 10-episode series would focus on a singular event told from multiple points of view where each of the main characters provides a unique and different perspective of the event based on their specific and subjective point of view. Only by watching each of the episodes, and seeing the differing character’s perspectives, will the audience come away with the truth behind the mystery.
Amblin TV’s Co-Presidents, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, will executive produce along with Atmosphere’s Mark Canton and David Hopwood, with Leigh Ann Burton from Opus 7 also executive producing

Netflix has canceled “All About the Washingtons.”
The scripted comedy starred Joseph Simmons — Rev. Run of Run-D.M.C. — and real-life wife Justine Simmons playing fictionalized versions of themselves raising a family of four kids. After Joey decides to retire from a long career as hip-hop royalty, his wife Justine takes advantage of the opportunity to pursue a career of her own now that Joey is available to focus on raising the kids and keeping the house in order. The couple’s kids are portrayed by rising stars Kiana Ledé, Nathan Anderson, Leah Rose Randall and Maceo Smedley.
“All About the Washingtons,” the first season of which premiered Aug. 10, was originally developed by ABC Studios and Amblin Television for the ABC television network. ABC passed on the show, which went on to land a series order from Netflix. Executive producers on the series were Joseph Simmons, Justine Simmons, Michael Lehman, Darryl Frank,...

Netflix has opted not to renew for a second season All About the Washingtons, its multi-camera comedy series starring Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons & Justine Simmons. The decision comes two months after the release of the series’ 10-episode first season, which didn’t seem to get a lot of traction.
Created by Jeremy Bronson (The Mayor), All About The Washingtons had a twisty road to the screen. The pitch originally landed at ABC in fall 2016 with a put pilot commitment. It did not get a pilot order, but, believing in the concept and the talent, producing companies Amblin TV and ABC Studios pulled together resources and used the penalty money to finance a pilot presentation. The presentation was well received by ABC brass but the broadcast network only picked up three new comedy series that year, including Bronson’s The Mayor, and got out of the multi-camera comedy business all together.

1. “Ozark” Season 2 (available August 31)
Why Should I Watch? “Ozark” isn’t for everyone. In fact, if you’re not a fan of pitch-black dramas, you should look elsewhere. Not only is the story of one couple’s dangerous decision gone horribly awry a brutal, unceasing crime series, but the visuals are often as dark as the content. That being said, it’s not boring. The entire show is based around one big mistake creating many more problems, and the Byrde family is constantly scrambling to keep themselves alive. Anyone suffering from Netflix bloat will be happy with Jason Bateman’s fast-moving, tightly wound thriller, so long as you’re not afraid of the dark.
Bonus Reason: Julia Garner is crazy good in this. As the rebellious, inventive, and enterprising Ruth Langmore, the up-and-coming actress is deserving of a series all her own. But for now, her journey through the murky waters of central Missouri,...

Netflix unveiled a brand image spot during Sunday’s Bet Awards telecast that highlights black artists who work for the streaming giant.
The spot dubbed “A Great Day in Hollywood” was inspired by the famed 1958 photograph “A Great Day in Harlem” featuring 57 jazz legends — including Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk, and Count Basie — on the stairs of New York brownstone snapped by photographer Art Kane.
The Netflix spot from director Lacey Duke features 47 black writers, showrunners, actors, and producers. The plan for the spot and the image campaign stemmed from Netflix’s Strong Black Lead initiative designed to foster an “ongoing, intentional focus to talk authentically with the black audience.” A photo similar to “Great Day in Harlem” was taken earlier this month by photographer Kwaku Alston to commemorate the gathering.
The debut comes just two days after Netflix was rocked by the abrupt departure of corporate communications chief Jonathan Friedland...

At the close of Season 8, Fiona confronted Ford about the state of their romance, after which he told her that he doesn’t fall in love like a teenager. When that happens, “you actually take space and time to get to know somebody for who they are, as opposed to what they represent for you,” showrunner Nancy Pimental told TVLine. “So it’s really good for her.
