There's a new Star Wars audiobook coming out called From a Certain Point of View, which will tell 40 stories from 40 different authors. The stories will focus on several different characters throughout the Star Wars universe including X-wing pilots, droid-hunting stormtroopers, and even some of the background characters from Star Wars: A New Hope.
One of these stories focuses on Boba Fett. The story is called "Added Muscle" and the story is written from Boba Fett's perspective. The story was written by Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series), and Jon Hamm (Mad Men) has been cast in the role of Boba Fett! Great casting and it will be fun to hear him voice this legendary Star Wars character. Do you think Hamm is a good choice? Would you like to see him play a version of the character in a movie?

We are knee-deep into a summer of dreary sequels, kids’ fare, and a few whip-smart outliers. If you’ve already seen the likes of The Beguiled and Baby Driver, perhaps staying home with a book is a better idea than trekking to the cinema. Let’s dive into some worthy film-centric reads.
Wonder Woman: The Art and Making of the Film by Sharon Gosling (Titan Books)
Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman is one of the biggest superhero success stories, and it deserves that designation. The classification makes reading a book like Wonder Woman: The Art and Making of the Film feel like a celebratory affair. After a brief account of the character’s comics history, we delve into designs for Themyscira, concept art of Dr. Maru’s laboratory, and somber depictions of battle. What stands out, however, are drawings and photographs showing the film’s winning costume designs. It is illuminating,...

Chadwick Boseman and Logan Coles, with Paramount Pictures who just acquired the untitled pitch, are developing a film based on the life of Reverend Jeffrey Brown.
According to Variety, the feature will potentially be starring the “Black Panther” actor and center on Rev. Brown as he fought to decrease gang violence.
Boseman will co-write the script with Coles, who will both produce alongside Ivan Reitman and Ali Bell of Montecito Pictures. Tom Pollock will executive produce. The project was brought to Boseman and Coles’ attention after Bell, who worked with Boseman on “Draft Day,” pitched it to the duo, then took it to Paramount.

Last Thursday, Fyodor Pavlov, a person I’m honored to call a friend, had the opening reception for his exhibition at the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art.Titled Carpe Noctem: Eros to Thanatos, the exhibition celebrates the interlocking themes of queer desire, sex, myth and death. The opening reception featured not only wine and cheese, but music and burlesque performances. It was an evening of celebrating queer art in many forms, and something that the comic book industry should be aware of.
Fyodor is a queer artist, a Russian immigrant, and a New Yorker. His art has been commissioned both privately and commercially. Additionally, he works on comics including Baritarian Boy co-created with his partner Lawrence Gullo and Bash Back, his current web comic co-created both his partner and with writer Kelsey Hercs.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Awards were taped last night, and a few bittersweet moments occurred, notably the homage to Lou Reed by Patti Smith and John Mayer remembering Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Texas bluesman I was lucky to see about ten times live living in Houston from 1974 to 1983. Later in life I got to know and become friends with his agent Bobby Brooks, who also died August 27, 1990 along with Stevie, Eric Clapton’s agent; Nigel Browne, his bodyguard; Colin Smythe, one of his tour managers; and the helicopter pilot, Jeffrey Brown. Bone: Out from Boneville Tribute Edition
By Jeff Smith
192 ages, Scholastic Graphix, $14.95
Bone is a phenomenon that just keeps growing, it seems. Jeff Smith’s self-published debuted in 1991 and charmed readers who discovered the black and white fantasy. However, he found a brand new audience when Scholastic added the series, in color for the first time, to their Graphix imprint. There now are the nine volumes, Rose (with art by Charles Vess), Tall Tales, Bone Handbook and three illustrated prose novels from Tom Sniegoski.
To celebrate the tenth anniversary of this incredibly successful partnership, Scholastic is releasing next week a hardcover Tribute Edition of volume one. The complete, still-charming is on hand but there is also additional material. We start with the 10-page poem “An Ode to Quiche”, written by and critiqued by the monsters who plague the fellow from Boneville. There are nine pinups culled from the other...

Marc Ellerby is working on backups for Titan Comics' Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor series.
The Great Beast co-founder has revealed that he will be writing and drawing short adventures of Matt Smith's Doctor on his Tumblr.
Karen Gillan's Amy Pond will also feature in the backups.
"Titan's approach with my strips is very much like that of Boom!'s Adventure Time range," said Ellerby. "You have a main story going on in the front and then you can a page or two of nonsense at the back.
"I think their efforts should be applauded, they're very much trying to branch the comics out to a wider audience, a more Tumblr friendly, web comic savvy crowd. Kudos to them and I hope the back ups become more of a regular thing and a massive massive thanks to editor Andrew James for going to bat for me several times.

The Thought Bubble Anthology is the third annual comic book accompaniment to the Leeds Comic Art Festival which this year falls on 23-24 November. PBS this morning named Gwin Ifill and Judy Woodruff — the stars of its most recent presidential election coverage – co-anchors and managing editors of Newshour. It marks the first time two women are co-anchoring the evening newscast on a major Us television network, PBS chief Paula Kerger noted at Summer TV Press Tour 2013, then said she “almost” paused in drawing attention to that factoid, because, “we picked the two people that were strongest.” Ifill and Woodruff will anchor the broadcast together Monday through Thursday; Woodruff will solo Fridays while Ifill hosts Washington Week that night. Newshour has had rotating teams of anchors over the past few years; Ifill and Woodruff were in the rotation. PBS will launch a weekend edition of Newshour next month. Hari Sreenivasan will anchor Newshour Weekend, Saturdays and Sundays beginning September 7; he also will serve as senior correspondent for the weekday newscast, reporting several times a week from Wnet in New York.

When freelance designer Brandon Peat and his wife Emma found out they were having a baby, they started to dream up creative ways to decorate the nursery for son-to-be, Tycho, who is now one-and-a-half.
Since both parents are artists, they wanted to create original prints for Tycho's room in their Fort Wayne home. "We decided to illustrate an alphabet of characters from one of our favorite franchises –- 'Star Wars,'" Brandon wrote on his blog.
To create the "alphabet from a galaxy far, far away," as he calls it, Brandon "sketched the basis for each character in pencil, which Emma then rendered and colored in Illustrator -– it was very much a collaborative process."
Brandon isn't the first parent to pass the force down to his offspring. Dad and illustrator, Jeffrey Brown, published "Darth Vader and Son" -- a hilarious send-up of Luke as a 4-year-old -- when his own son was little.

"Star Wars" was the first movie Jeffrey Brown saw in the theater as a kid. The illustrator and father of one has been a dedicated fan ever since, collecting paraphernalia and trying his best to pass down an appreciation of the force to his 5-year-old son, Oscar.
Though Oscar has yet to see the any of the films, he has all of the Lego figurines, several "Star Wars" t-shirts and knows the characters well -- "R2D2 is his favorite," Brown says.
All of this meant that, in 2010, when Google wanted someone to draw an awkward family dinner with Luke and Darth Vader for a Google Doodle, Brown was a natural fit. And, when they approached him for the project, the artist got inspired; he decided to do a whole book of "Darth Vader and Son" drawings.

Graphic novelist Jeffrey Brown's son inspired his new book about parenting, Star Wars-style
It is a scene many parents will recognise – Dad has had to take his son to work and is trying to get through a meeting, but the child has other, louder ideas. It's all very awkward, but even more so when Dad is Darth Vader and his son is Luke Skywalker. Yes, even the dark side of the Force can't save him from childcare foul-ups.
The scene is from a new book by graphic novelist Jeffrey Brown and poses a simple question: what if Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker had had a normal father/son relationship?
Darth Vader and Son sees Vader desperately trying to be a dad in that way that many men will recognise, so the obvious question is, does Brown have children of his own?
"Yeah, I don't think I could have...

Jeffrey Brown, Ming Doyle, Michael Kupperman and several other creators contributed to The Comic Book Fan's Worst Nightmare!, which is available to download from the Cbldf site or comiXology.

Bridesmaids has proven to be a big hit, and less critically lauded nuptial fare like Jumping the Broom and Something Borrowed have also been drawing audiences. And while Will Ferrell is producing another wedding comedy under his Gary Sanchez Productions, there’s one in development whose cast might be enough to relieve any wedding day blues you may be feeling.
Variety (via The Playlist) unveiled news of the upcoming comedy Save the Date, which has already cast Community’s Alison Brie, Party Down’s Lizzy Caplan, and Martin Starr as well as (500) Days of Summer’s Geoffrey Arend. So not a bad lineup at all. Brie and Caplan will play sisters, one whose planning a wedding while the other is “happy with the status quo,” not wanting to marry her musician boyfriend. In the sea of sugary sweet rom-coms, how do you make your film stand out? A good place to start is by lining up a stellar cast from the young Hollywood set.
And that's exactly what Mike Mohan (who helmed the 2010 Sundance flick "One Too Many Mornings") is doing for his next project.
The up-and-coming writer/ director has just signed "Mad Men" starlet Alison Brie, as well as the brunette beauty Lizzy Caplan (whom you'll remember from her breakout role as the sassy Janis Ian in "Mean Girls") to star in his independent romantic comedy "Save the Date."
Brie and Caplan will play two sisters, the former one at peace with her life choices, the latter… well… not. Hilarity ensuies.
The duo joins an already sparkling list of names that includes seasoned thesp Geoffrey Arend—who will be a love interest for Caplan's character—and "Party Down" alum Martin Starr...

Party Down fans are always anxious to see the stars of that show working together again in some way or another, so they'll be happy with today's casting news about Save the Date, a romantic comedy coming from Mike Mohan, the director of the Sundance hit One Too Many Mornings. According to Variety Party Down alums Lizzy Caplan and Martin Starr have signed on to star in the film, along with Community's Alison Brie, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World's Mark Webber, and 500 Days of Summer's Geoffrey Arend. Best of all for nerdy TV fans, Caplan and Brie are actually the stars, playing two sisters with very different approaches to lifelong relationships with their significant others. The movie starts shooting in Los Angeles in July, from a script that Mohan wrote along with Jeffrey Brown and Egan Reich; the characters come from graphic novels created by Brown, whose work...

Alison Brie ("Community"), Lizzy Caplan ("127 Hours"), Martin Starr ("Mad Men") and Geoffrey Arend will star in the indie romantic comedy "Save the Date" reports Variety.
The story focuses on two sisters, one who's ambivalent about her future (Caplan) and another more at peace with life and long-term commitment (Brie).
Arend's character is passionate about music and cares tremendously for Caplan's character.
Mike Mohan is directing from a script he co-wrote with Jeffrey Brown and Egan Reich. Shooting kicks off in July in Los Angeles.

Recently I had the pleasure of speaking with Scholar and University of Georgia Professor, Jonathan Gayles, about his upcoming documentary entitled — Shaft or Sidney Poitier: black masculinity in comic books. The Professor’s film is a retrospective on the comic book industry, as Black [male] Superheroes emerged during the late 60′s to mid 70′s. The Profession had a lot to say about the industry and how like most mediums we discuss here at Shadow and Act, there was [and is] a pervasive trend of defining black men and women by these very narrow characteristics.
Check out my interview with Professor Gayles below and don’t forget to share your thoughts on this fascinating subject!
Monique: You have a Phd in African American studies and Applied Anthropology, I could imagine that having that educational background provided you a wealth of tools on how to approach this subject matter; but given your childhood love...

HollywoodNews.com: ‘Jersey Shore’ star Jenni “Jwoww” Farley has been working hard to stop her ex-boyfriend from releasing nude photos of her and now she is taking the matter to court.
Jwoww’s ex, Tom Lippolis, reportedly has some naked pictures of the reality TV star before and after she had her plastic surgery done, states RadarOnline.com. Now, Jwoww has reportedly filed an Order To Show Cause at Nassau Supreme Court in Long Island, New York, with Judge Jeffrey Brown because she believes he is trying to make money off of her images.
However, Lippolis’ lawyer is reportedly claiming that she has no grounds to stop him because the images are on his cell phone and were taken with her consent.

This week's installment of Weekend Reading is going international, with a look at four books from Top Shelf Productions' "Swedish Invasion" line.
Launched just last month, the four books were originally published in Sweden but now arrive here in the U.S. fully translated and featuring an eclectic mix of stories by creators who might not be well-known commodities here, but have earned a big following in their homeland and the surrounding regions.
From a rapper's quest to sleep, smoke and crash his way across the country to a trippy adventure with naked, hairy forest-dwellers, the Swedish Invasion has begun.

The Story: "Bizarre New World" by Skipper Martin (W), Christopher Provencher (A) and Wes Dzioba (C) - Ape Entertainment
What It's About: Meet Paul Krutcher, an ordinary guy who works as a film editor. He's also a divorced father devoted to his son... and the world's first flying man. Krutcher quickly embraces his newfound ability and uses it to greatly improve his life until the world discovers the "first flying man" and it isn't him...
Why It Works: Martin crafts an incredibly relatable and engaging story about a protagonist who is refreshingly ordinary. Krutcher doesn't use his gift to fight crime or as an excuse to make himself into a costumed hero; he uses it to have fun. At the same time, his paranoia of being discovered is quite humorous. Krutcher's relationship with his young son is also very believable and warm, which adds a welcome human touch to the story.

The Story: "Light Brigade" by Peter J. Tomasi (W) and Peter Snejbjerg (A) - DC Comics
What It's About: A group of Allied soldiers encounters a pair of fallen angels who crashed to Earth in battle. Charged with recovering a holy weapon, the soldiers must overcome enemies human and supernatural to retrieve it before an army of undead Nazis can tap its power.
Behind enemy lines, low on supplies, and reeling from the horrors of World War II, the ragtag group needs to muster equal parts courage and faith in order to to save the world.
Why It Works: A self-contained story with well-defined heroes, villains and a thrilling climax, "Light Brigade" screams out to be adapted into movie form. In many ways, "Light Brigade" is the ideal ensemble film, with a host of characters with significant parts to play in the overall story and unique traits that make each...

The Story: "Incredible Change-Bots" by Jeffrey Brown - Top Shelf Productions
What It's About: Forced off their war-ravaged home planet of Electrocybercircuitron, the Awesomebots and Fantasticons continue their struggle on Earth, utilizing their advanced technology and ability to transform from robots to vehicles (and back again).
Sure, it sounds familiar — but that's intentional with this nostalgic mash-up of giant-robot adventures a la Transformers and Go-Bots. While Brown makes no shortage of references to the '80s cartoon and toy lines (Awesomebots leader "Big Rig" turns into a tractor trailer, while his Fantasticons counterpart, "Shootertron," changes into a gun), his tales have the robots treading new, hilarious ground.
Why It Works: We've all seen giant robots saving Earth, rescuing their human buddies, and doing all sorts of heroic things — but have you ever seen them awkwardly misinterpret the human language, forget to let their passengers out before they transform (messy!), or...

Archaia announced their upcoming "Fraggle Rock" comics as the beginning of a wider lineup of titles produced in cooperation with the Jim Henson Company, but there's a good reason the 25-year-old group of colorful cave-dwellers will appear first in line.
According to Melissa Segal, senior vice-president of global consumer products for Jim Henson Company, the "Fraggle Rock" comic is part of a big push to get the puppets in front of a new generation while still connecting with parents who grew up with the Fraggles. That's a process that has involved working with some of the original minds behind the 1980s TV series at The Jim Henson Company, recruiting big names in indie comics like Jeffrey Brown, and support for a marketing effort behind adult Halloween costumes and a feature-length film.

Debra Granik's "Winter's Bone" was the big winner in Park City Saturday night, as it won both the dramatic competition grand jury prize and the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. Earlier in the day, the gritty drama secured North American distribution through Roadside Attractions for release later this year.
The film, about an unflinching Ozark Mountain girl trudging through dangerous social terrain as she hunts down her missing father, was adapted from the Daniel Woodrell novel by Granik and Anne Rosellini. Granik's previous film, the 2004 Sundance entry "Down to the Bone," won her a dramatic directing award.
The rest of the awards were fairly well spread around at the Saturday night ceremony hosted by David Hyde Pierce, who starred in the Park City at Midnight entry "The Perfect Host" this year.
