In the past few years, gaming and creator culture have become an increasingly prominent part of the rap world. Think of the growing presence of Twitch streamers, or Ericdoa’s viral “Ninja Taper Fade” moment as an illustration of the overlapping Venn diagram between gamers and young rap fans. “Speedrunning,” a term that refers to gamers seeing how fast they can beat a particular game, has even made its way to the rap world, as young producers post videos of themselves recreating popular rap beats in record time.

A throng of teenagers are chasing a double-decker bus through Manhattan’s Washington Square Park hoping to get a glimpse of Brooklyn drill sensations 41, a group comprised of Brooklynites Jenn Carter, Kyle Richh, and TaTa. Republic Records, their label, wrapped the bus with their faces and invited fans to join them on a ride through Manhattan. The hourslong journey is a big occasion because New York City isn’t so keen on letting artists in this scene hold events to interact with their fans.

Fresh off the heels of his latest single, ‘Rush’, which features Billboard-charting recording artist Zoey Dollaz, Ike Rhein returns with a new hit, ‘Good Love’. ‘Good Love’ features multi-platinum recording artist Sean Kingston. The song is the second lead single from Ike Rhein’s upcoming debut album, ‘Memoir’, which is slated to be released in early 2024.
In a similar vein as “Rush,” “Good Love” dives into relationships and the titular, love. However, “Good Love” has a more romantic, sensual vibe to it. The track is more of a Pop song, but it does have R&b / Soul sounds sprinkled in it. Sean Kingston also adds his Caribbean flair, which gives the record an eclectic, rich tone. “I wanted to give fans a feel-good, lovey-dovey type of Pop song.” Ike Rhein continues, “I added the legend, Sean Kingston, to surprise fans and give the song another element that fans haven’t heard from me yet.

The comedy team known as Please Don't Destroy from recent seasons of "Saturday Night Live" have made quite a splash on the late night sketch comedy show. Acting as what is basically the newest equivalent of The Lonely Island, the trio comprised of Martin Herlihy, John Higgins, and Ben Marshall delivers hilarious pre-recorded sketches, and they're also part of the writing staff. Now, like many "SNL" cohorts before them, Please Don't Destroy is releasing their first movie, and the first trailer has arrived.
Originally intended for theaters, "Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain" is coming to Peacock in November instead, probably because the title wouldn't fit on most marquees. But in all seriousness, don't let its streaming destination make you think this movie isn't worth your time. This is the kind of comedy that studios aren't making much anymore, and it likely feels like it's just too much...

Soulja Boy admits that he cannot pay his ex-girlfriend the $236,000 he owes her due to his high living expenses and his million-dollar debt in taxes.
He has asked a judge to reconsider the decision reached in a prior lawsuit where Kayla Myers was awarded over $230,000 in damages because he cannot afford to pay.
He claims that his current income does not cover his cost of living and that during the lawsuit his financial situation was inaccurately portrayed. In addition to this, he owes the IRS $1 million in back taxes and is requesting the judge overturn the decision.
A financial statement submitted by Soulja Boy shows the problem he is facing – his lavish lifestyle is not covered by his income. Back in 2007, he asserted that he was earning “millions” at the beginning of his career, but his current income is made through marketing, appearances and concerts.

But with her recent re-emergence on the silver screen, it’s worth taking a second look at her career to date. One of her more notable movies, The Canyons, was panned for its plot but praised for her performance. It also involved Lohan making an interesting request of the crew.

When former first lady Michelle Obama arrived at Revolt’s Atlanta headquarters to talk about her new book “The Light We Carry,” she walked into a unique situation.
Not only was Obama sitting down for a candid conversation with a quintet of powerful women of color — Grammy winners H.E.R. and Kelly Rowland, supermodel and activist Winnie Harlow and businesswoman Tina Knowles-Lawson, moderated by radio host Angie Martinez — but the studio was also filled with women of color — from the special’s executive producer Monique Chenault, Revolt’s president of news, specials and documentary, to the talent bookers, crew and PAs.
Needless to say, the vibe on set was markedly different than most.

A review of this week’s Atlanta, “Andrew Wyeth, Alfred’s World,” coming up just as soon as I blame DeSoto for this bullshit…

New York Times reporter Joe Coscarelli‘s new book, Rap Capital: An Atlanta Story, is a thorough account of the rise of Atlanta hip-hop as a business and a culture. Through vignettes with the city’s eclectic cast of characters — rappers and businesspeople alike — Coscarelli paints a vivid portrait of the city’s unique wealth of talent. The book’s concern with 2013 until 2020 lands right as the forces of racism and capitalism, a constant source of tension within hip-hop, confronted the dawn of the streaming era. In the chapter on Migos,...

A review of this week’s Atlanta, “Crank Dat Killer,” coming up just as soon as I have a safe farm…
It feels strange to describe an episode like this, built around an active shooter situation, as a relatively light one for Atlanta, yet dammit if “Crank Dat Killer” doesn’t feel exactly that. Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you haven’t watched “Crank Dat Killer,” Season 4, Episode 6 of “Atlanta.”
In 2006 and 2007, Atlanta was experiencing a renaissance.
A renaissance of snap music, to be specific. The city was already producing hits like Dem Franchise Boyz’s “Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It” and D4L’s “Laffy Taffy.” Then, Soulja Boy released his debut single Crank That (Soulja Boy)” just as the concept of YouTube virality was coming into existence, prompting thousands of Atlantans to create their own versions — from “Crank Dat Yank” to “Crank Dat Roosevelt” to a “Super Mario” version — while the rest of the country watched.
In Season 4, Episode 6 of “Atlanta,” headlines are warning Atlantans about the Crank Dat Killer, a serial killer targeting anyone and everyone who made a “Crank Dat” video back in the day. Alfred aka Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) realizes his old “Crank Dat Jimmy Neutron...
