"Treadstone", focusing on the deep state 'CIA black ops' organization from the "Jason Bourne" movies, premieres on Amazon Prime Video January 10, 2020:
"...'Treadstone' focuses on the exploits of 'Operation Treadstone', the program responsible for turning 'Jason Bourne' into a brain-washed super spy.
"The first season follows various 'sleeper agents' as they're 'awakened' to resume their missions..."
"Formed after the Viet Nam war, 'Treadstone' was a top-secret black ops program of the 'Central Intelligence Agency' (CIA), using a behavior-modification program to break down morality, while recruiting 'Us Service' members to turn them into superhuman assassins, in direct response to the 'Congressional Act' which banned the Us from partaking in extra-judicial killings.
'Jason Bourne' appeared in 3 novels by author Robert Ludlum, with a follow-up series, written by Eric Van Lustbader in 2004.

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier was judged pretty harshly by critics and audiences alike when it was released on June 9th, 1989. This was the follow-up to The Voyage Home, one of the most successful Star Trek movies in franchise history, it opened two weeks before Batman took over the box office, and even though The Final Frontier concludes on a meeting with “God,” the finale never quite feels as epic as earlier installments.
But, the passage of time is a funny thing. And Star Trek IV, which was such a favorite of mine back in the day, now feels dated. In contrast, I’ve come to appreciate The Final Frontier more and more with every viewing. And as I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned just how magical and wonderfully flawed moviemaking really is. Even though Star Trek V may not live up to its predecessors, namely Wrath of Khan,...

This week kids' favorite SpongeBob SquarePants will be the center of a new story on a wholly new medium: Twitter. The Ice Race Cometh--a Twitter Tale is an original story, from the official SpongeBob writing team, and will consist of multiple tweets and images broadcast throughout each day from July 12th to July 15th. Fun? Sure. Novel? You bet. Silly? Quite a bit.
Though the SpongeBob tweeting is something of a PR stunt, coming as a prequel to a brand-new episode due to air in prime time on July 15th, the team seems to be taking the Twittersodes seriously. The content will set up background for the characters as they prepare for the "Bikini Bottom Great Sleigh Race" in the TV episode. And if you remember, back in January, the Nickelodeon team also tried to leverage Facebook to promote its new Trenchbillies label, ahead of the TV release--so they're not...

Jeremy Renner is expected to sign on to star in Universal’s The Bourne Legacy, a spin-off of the spy trilogy that starred Matt Damon. Tony Gilroy, who contributed to the screenplays for the first three, is directing the fourth installment.
Renner will play a new brainwashed covert operative from a different program than Treadstone, the black ops organization responsible for Jason Bourne, reports Deadline.
Renner’s name has been circulating in connection with the project since early April when Latino Review first broke the news of Universal’s offer, but it’s a surprise he agreed to play the part. Renner is already co-starring in the similar Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and is poised to take over the franchise if and when Tom Cruise vacates the lead. The 40-year-old is also playing Hawkeye in Marvel’s The Avengers next summer and, if all goes as planned, his own stand-alone adventures in costume.

Tony Gilroy, who has previously directed Michael Clayton and Duplicity, is hoping to keep movie theaters freshly stocked with new Jason Bourne movies. Currently there are nine Bourne novels in existence, with a tenth on the way in 2012, so there is no shortage of material for the director to adapt to the big screen. Already he has written a script for The Bourne Legacy, and he intends to direct the film himself, so it seems like all systems should be go. The only problem is that Matt Damon is done with the series, so he’s going to have to find himself another actor to play the title character. In a way, a changeover of actors is fitting for The Bourne Legacy. The first three novels in the Bourne series, which have all been adapted into films starring Damon, were written by Robert Ludlum. Starting with “Legacy” all of the rest of the sequels have been written...

There won’t be Jason Bourne in The Bourne Legacy. But according to a new report, there may well be Jeremy Renner…
The muddy waters of the Jason Bourne franchise have still shown little sign of clearing. What we know thus far is that Matt Damon isn't returning, director Paul Greengrass has moved on to other projects, and that Universal is thus going to be doing a Bourne movie without Bourne in it.
That movie is set to be The Bourne Legacy, based around the novel by Eric Van Lustbader. It's being directed by Tony Gilroy (Duplicity, Michael Clayton), who worked on the screenplays of the earlier Bourne films. It's also set in the existing Bourne world, so no reboot required. And it's still hunting its leading man, ahead of its planned summer 2012 release.
But could that leading man have been found? Latino Review is reporting that Jeremy Renner is...

Matt Damon’s triple turn as amnesiac CIA assassin Jason Bourne earned an impressive $525 million for Universal Pictures via "The Bourne Identity," "Supremacy" and "Ultimatum" and its $175 million average per film bested the two recent James Bond adventures starring Daniel Craig. According to London’s “The Sun,” Damon shocked the execs at Universal Pictures when he turned down their big-money offer to reprise his role as Bourne in the fourth film, an adaptation of the 2005 novel "The Bourne Legacy" with author Eric Van Lustbader filling in for the late Robert Ludlum. Tony Gilroy, who’s signed on to both direct and write the adapted script for “The Bourne Legacy,” said that the project will continue without Damon because a new hero will replace Bourne.

The next movie in the Bourne franchise is taking shape - but in rather an unconventional way.
The film will be called The Bourne Legacy but won't be based on the book of that name and will feature neither Jason Bourne nor Matt Damon.
If you're wondering how Jason Bourne could exist without Matt Damon anyway, there had been talk about the character's name being an alias that could be passed on to another person. But that won't be happening now. It will be a Bourne without Bourne, if that makes sense.
Confused? Then let Tony Gilroy explain. He was screenwriter on the three previous releases and in June was hired to pen the fourth film. Earlier this month it was revealed he will also direct this next adventure.
Following the news that he was not only writing but helming the film, Gilroy spoke to Hollywood Elsewhere to clear up some details.

With the "Bourne" film series scribe Tony Gilroy taking over the directing reigns on the upcoming fourth film, it looked like Matt Damon was unlikely to return.
Now in an interview with Hollywood Elsewhere, Gilroy succinctly clears up some of the rumors and talks about what his plans are for the franchise.
First up the film's title will be "The Bourne Legacy", but "will not use the story" from the book ghostwritten under Robert Ludlum's name by Eric van Lustbader. Gilroy adds "it's a completely original screenplay".
This is not unexpected at all as only the first half of the first film in the series, "The Bourne Identity", bared any resemblance to the original book. The subsequent films similarly used the titles only and some of Bourne's personal backstory elements.
More interestingly while Damon is out, Gilroy specifically says this is Not a "reboot or a recast or a...

He may not be the fan favorite to direct, but 'Bourne' trilogy screenwriter Tony Gilroy (who garnered just 19% of your vote versus Doug Liman's 57% in our poll last December) is signed on to helm the next installment of the franchise, titled 'The Bourne Legacy.' We learned this to be official early this month. What hadn't been clarified, though, is that contrary to rumors this fourth film will not be a reboot, or even a prequel recast with a younger actor. Rather Gilroy tells Hollywood Elsewhere that 'Legacy' will be a continuation and part of the same chronology. However, neither Matt Damon nor his character, Jason Bourne, will be anywhere near it.
This should be confusing to readers of the Eric Van Lustbader novel of the same name, which focuses on Bourne's life post-'Bourne Ultimatum.' But the film will not be based on that book.

There were a few unanswered questions following last week's news that Tony Gilroy would be directing the next instalment in the Bourne franchise. Thanks to Hollywood Elsewhere though, we now have clarification: Matt Damon will certainly not be returning for The Bourne Legacy. That's not because the role of superspy Jason Bourne is being re-cast. It's because Bourne isn't in the film at all. "No one's replacing Matt Damon," says Gilroy, the writer of all the Bournes so far and director of the ace Michael Clayton. "There will be a whole new hero."If that doesn't chime with what you think you know about The Bourne Legacy, it's possibly because the film will have nothing to do with Eric Van Lustbader's novel (the fourth in the series; Lustbader continued the novels after Robert Ludlum's death). Lustbader's Legacy involved Bourne, some Chechen terrorists and a bacteriological weapon, but Gilroy says that,...

Universal's new Jason Bourne movie isn't going to have Jason Bourne in it. Nor Matt Damon. So what's going on? Answers lie within...
Last week, we reported the news that Universal had chosen Tony Gilroy to succeed Paul Greengrass in the director's chair for the fourth Jason Bourne movie. Gilroy has worked, in a writing capacity, on the three films to date, and also has a couple of solid directorial efforts under his belt (Duplicity and Michael Clayton). However, speculation immediately arose as to where that leaves Matt Damon. Damon has said, in the wake of the successes of The Bourne Ultimatum, that if Greengrass didn't do the next movie, he wouldn't either.
And it turns out that the actor has been as good as his word.
It's now been confirmed by Gilroy, talking to Hollywood Elsewhere, that this is a new direction for the Bourne franchise, and one that does not involve Damon.

With the announcement that Tony Gilroy would be directing the fourth installment of the Jason Bourne franchise on Monday, there was one question on everyone's mind: what about Matt Damon? Dating back to February, Damon told members of the press (including myself) that he would not be returning without director Paul Greengrass and Greengrass was interested in doing something else. Apparently, Gilroy, as both the writer and the director, has found a way around this problem by not having Jason Bourne as a character. Hollywood Elsewhere recently spoke with Gilroy who said that the character of Jason Bourne would lot play a role in the new film, titled The Bourne Legacy. While sharing a title with the book by Eric Van Lustbader (the first in the series after original writer Robert Ludlum's death), they will not be in anyway the same plot wise will have an entirely new lead character.

Hollywood Elsewhere talked to The Bourne Legacy writer/director Tony Gilroy ( Duplicity , Michael Clayton ), who clarified a few things about the upcoming project. He says the Universal release has taken the title from the Eric Van Lustbader book based on the series created by Robert Ludlum, but that they will not be using the story. "This is not a reboot or a recast or a prequel. No one's replacing Matt Damon. There will be a whole new hero, a whole new chapter...this is a stand-alone project," said Gilroy. "The easiest way to think of it is an expansion or a reveal," Gilroy added. "Jason Bourne will not be in this film, but he's very much alive.
