Dracul: Paramount Pictures wants Andy Muschietti (It, above) to direct Dracul, described as "the first prequel authorized by the estate of Bram Stoker," the author of the original Dracula. Universal previously released the origin story Dracula Untold (2014), but the new movie will forge its own vision, following a script by Dacre Stoker and J.D. Barker about a 21-year-old Stoker who meets "an ungodly evil" and traps it in an ancient tower. [Deadline] Sheena: Queen of the Jungle: A new version of Sheena: Queen of the Jungle is on its way to the big screen. First published in 1937, the comic book character was an orphan who grew up in the jungle and could communicate with wild animals. Tanya Roberts starred in a film version, Sheena, in 1984 (above...

Paramount Pictures has picked up the rights to a new Dracula prequel film project called Dracul. The script for the film is being co-written by Bram Stoker's great grand nephew Dacre Stoker and J.D. Barker. The film is being set up as a directing project for It director Andy Muschietti.
According to Deadline, the story is set in 1868, "where a 21-year old Bram Stoker meets with an ungodly evil that he traps in an ancient tower all the while scribbling the events that led him there."
That "ungodly evil" is most likely a vampire. With Dacre Stoker being involved with the project, this will be the first Dracula prequel story fully authorized by Bram Stoker’s estate. This isn't the first time he's played around with his vampire heritage. In 2009 he co-wrote a novel called Dracula: The Un-Dead, and in 2011 he directed a documentary called Dracula Meets Stoker.

He's helping to bring one of horror's creepiest characters to life on the big screen in his latest film, It, and one of director Andy Muschietti's future projects could feature another iconic character in horror.
Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures has picked up the film rights for Dracul, what is described as an official prequel book to Stoker's seminal 1897 horror novel. According to Deadline, the adaptation of the yet-to-be-released book could be a potential project for filmmaker Muschietti to take on along with It movie producers Barbara Muschietti and Roy Lee.
Muschietti is currently set as the new director of Hulu's Locke & Key pilot episode adaptation (taking over for Scott Derrickson, who had a scheduling conflict) and he could potentially direct the second It movie that would follow the Losers' Club as adults (although a follow-up film has yet to be officially announced by Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema...

To mark the centenary of Bram Stoker's death, we joined a conference at Keats House in London's Hampstead where the great and the ghouls of vampire scholarship joined up for two days of talks.
Stoker's great-grandnephew Dacre Stoker and the scholar Elizabeth Miller introduced their new book based on the discovery of a set of journals written by Stoker in his early years. Christopher Frayling explains why he regrets vampires becoming mainstream, and writers Kevin Jackson and Marcus Sedgewick exchange little-known vampire facts. We pay a visit to the columbarium at Golders Green Crematorium where Stoker's ashes are kept. Plus, we talk to the film critic and novelist Kim Newman about the reissue of his cult series Anno Dracula.
Reading list
The Lost Journal of Bram Stoker edited by Dacre Stoker and Elizabeth Miller
Anno Dracula by Kim Newman

We can't get enough of our vampires. Whether you're into the blood-dripping fangs of Stake Land; the slutty, sultry ones from "True Blood" or the sparkly kind from Twilight, we all love our vamps. Now there's new info on how Bram Stoker got the whole thing going.
A new version of Dracula will soon be released and this one will contain images and details from Stoker's actual 1897 publishing deal. Apparently, aside from being able to spin a wicked vampire tale, Stoker was pretty savvy at the bargaining table as well. The new book reveals that Stoker landed a deal which granted him 20 percent royalties on Dracula. Anyone who's in the publishing business will tell you that's one helluva deal…about double what an author could get by today's standards. Although he never practiced law, Stoker studied it, giving himself the skills to work out this honey of a deal.

Ever wonder what would happen if monster met master? That's exactly the premise of a new documentary which would see the legendary Dracula come face-to-face with Bram Stoker!
According to Variety Spain's Cin TV is prepping Dracula Meets Stoker, a 3D documentary feature about writer Bram Stoker, his family and the vampire myth.
The film will look at the true story of Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia -- now part of Romania -- a 15th century ruler better known by his Romanian surname, Dracula.
Best-selling author Dacre Stoker (The Un-Dead), Stoker's great-grand-nephew, is to helm, working from his new novel, Dracula Meets Stoker. The doc will be a kind of "making-of" the novel, said a production company source.
It will open theatrically in 2012 to commemorate the centenary of the Irish Gothic author's death.

Variety is reporting that Dacre Stoker, the great-grand nephew is directing a 3D documentary called Dracula Meets Stoker, which will act as a making-of the famous literary novel and the films.

Next year will be the centery of Bram Stoker’s death, and will also see the release of Dario Argento’s Dracula 3D, so it’s as good of a time as any to release a Dracula-based documentary. But 3D? Dacre Stoker is writing a book that will serve as the basis for this film, same title, and he has written a Dracula sequel a few years back, called Dracula The Un-Dead.

Dacre is now set to direct a 3D documentary called Dracula Meets Stoker for Spain's Cin TV. There have been many pastiches, sequels, continuations, imitations, and appropriations of Dracula, Bram Stoker’s classic vampire novel. But only this one has been approved and endorsed by Stoker’s family, and only this one was cowritten by one of his descedents, his great-grandnephew Dacre Stoker, and by a Dracula expert, Ian Holt. Only this one is as big a bunch of hooey. It’s probably the funniest vampire novel I’ve ever read (though I haven’t read Stephenie Meyer yet)... certainly it’s the funniest Dracula book that isn’t meant to be funny. It’s also ridiculously entertaining. Reading this novel meant coming to yet another absurd plot twist or character revelation and saying to myself, yet again, “No, really? They went there? Bwahahahaha!” only to keep on feverishly turning pages, eager to see how it all turned out.

Perhaps feeling that the worldwide fascination with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and the "Twilight" movie series has focused attention on the wrong vampires, a relative of the creator of the grand-daddy Gothic novel "Dracula" wants to have a memorial erected in Dublin in time for the 100th anniversary of Bram Stoker's death this year. "It's an oversight. There is no permanent memorial in his home city to this guy," said Dacre Stoker. Stoker, whose great-grandfather was Bram Stoker's youngest brother, feels that the "Dracula" creator rightly deserves his place among the many memorials throughout Dublin commemorating famous Irish writers, such as Samuel Beckett and James Joyce. Bram Stoker was born in Dublin in 1847 and lived there for 31 years before moving to London. A highly regarded scholar, Stoker attended Trinity College. He worked as a civil servant in Dublin Castle for many years and at the same time acted...

He is, without a doubt, the most famous vampire (yes, even more famous than Edward from the Twilight franchise). His villainy is legendary and his story inspired centuries of sequels in both books and movie form. Spawned from the genius of Bram Stoker, Dracula gave readers the original figure who started the bloodsucker craze. Now, in 2009, an actual descendant of the Stoker line is bringing Vlad the Impaler back to life.
Dracula The Un-dead (out now in hardcover from Dutton) was written by Dacre Stoker (Bram’s great-grandnephew) and Dracula historian Ian Holt. Equipped with Bram’s personal notes and thorough research, they have turned out a novel that is definitely worthy of sitting on the shelf beside the 1897 classic.
Told from several perspectives (as was the original), Dracula The Un-dead re-introduces readers to favorite characters like Mina Murray/Harker, Jonathan Harker, Dr. Jack Seward, Arthur Holmwood and Abraham Van Helsing.

This October, another of Lee's projects hits shelves—and this time around, he's tapped into an even more well-known and much-loved universe: the vampire-filled world of Bram Stoker's "Dracula."
Titled "From The Pages Of Bram Stoker's 'Dracula': 'Harker,'" Lee's upcoming graphic novel follows the cast of Stoker's 1897 novel as they attempt to put their lives back together in the aftermath of Count Dracula's death. However, unlike other stories that tap the well of vampire mythology, "Harker" has a very unique seal of approval.
"This is the first-ever graphic novel that has an endorsement from the Stoker family," said Lee of the book, which will feature an introduction by Dacre Stoker, the great grandnephew of Bram Stoker.

British writer Tony Lee is working on a graphic novel sequel to Dracula. From the Pages of Bram Stoker’s Dracula: Harker will be published by Aam/Markosia, with an introduction from one of Stoker's descendants. "We were fortunate to get introductions by Ian Holt and Bram Stoker's great-grandnephew Dacre Stoker, who have both just written the first 'official' Dracula sequel, Dracula: The Undead," Lee told Newsarama, "and (more)...

To scholars of gothic and classic horror literature, the idea of writing a sequel to one of the crown jewels of horror culture, Bram Stoker’s original text Dracula, must sound like literary rape of the most criminal sort. Yet, this is not the simplistic cash-in that some may accuse it of being. The trio of Stoker descendant Dacre Stoker, Ian Holt, and Michael Kuciak acknowledge monetary value as a motivating factor, but have more complex goals alongside the obvious one.
Holt and Kuciak had initially tracked down Dacre’s uncle to tackle the project of writing a screenplay-sequel to Dracula. However, the Stoker family’s relationship to Hollywood had always been very negative, since Bram Stoker and his lawyers had failed to procure a worthwhile exchange for the book’s copyright. One search through ancestry.com later, Michael, Tim, and the family were put in contact with one another.

While there have been many rehashes and follow-ups to Bram Stoker’s original Dracula novel, there has never been an official sequel put on paper. Until now.
According to the NY Post, Dacre Stoker, Bram Stoker’s great-grandnephew, has penned a sequel to the original novel along with Long Island screenwriter Ian Holt, which even has the official backing of the Stoker Estate, the first to have such a designation since the original film adaptation starring Bela Lugosi.
Titled Dracula: The Un-Dead, the book was sold to Harper UK, who will handle foreign distribution, and Brian Tart of Dutton, who will handle domestic distribution. The book, which supposedly includes characters and plot threads from Bram Stoker’s own notes, will hit U.S. stands in October 2009. It's also out to studios for a film adaptation. Let the bidding war begin!
