Stan’s ‘Bloom’.
The Federal Government today confirmed that Australian shows commissioned by Netflix, Stan and other streaming services and produced in Australia will qualify immediately for the Post, Digital and Visual Effects (Pdv) and Location Offsets.
Communications Minister Mitch Fifield told The Australian the changes would “ensure our industry is able to capitalise on more opportunities and will attract further inbound investment in Australian screen production.”
There was no follow-up announcement today because Scott Morrison this morning called an election on May 18 so the government went into caretaker mode at 8.29 am.
The screen industry might have assumed the extension would not implemented but a spokesperson for Fifield tells If that as the decision was made yesterday, the measure took effect today.
Fifield told The Oz: “Large-budget productions strengthen Australia’s capacity to produce high-quality stories for Australian and international audiences by providing skills development and training opportunities that...

Support is growing among producers, state agencies and sales agents for a proposal to create a scheme to share information on local films. global revenues modelled on the Sundance Transparency Project.
The scheme would enable Australian filmmakers to compare their work to similar films, identify all potential revenue streams and the distribution costs involved, and gauge how B.O. grosses co-relate to VOD and other online platforms.
However some advocates say commercial confidentiality and the reluctance of producers to share data on under-performing films may be stumbling blocks.

Crowd-funding site Pozible and Western Australia’s screen agency ScreenWest have partnered together for a new fund-matching initiative.
In what is believed to be a world first for a government film body teaming with a crowd-funding site, the idea sees ScreenWest offer a three-to-one incentive for projects on Pozible.
The initiative is for creative teams producing narrative-based, digital projects, including interactive content, web series, animation and documentaries.
For every dollar raised through Pozible, ScreenWest will contribute three dollars.
Projects with budgets of $20,000 to $200,000 must raise at least a quarter of the total themselves with ScreenWest offering a minimum of $15,000 and maximum of $150,000 per project.
Projects must apply to be included in the initiative, with those selected projects to be launched on Pozible in December.
Projects will have a maximum of 90 days to reach their funding target, but money will be allocated on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis.

With the day packed to the tee with seminars, group discussions and workshops, Day 2 at Ficci Frames was abuzz with activities. Here's an overview - Innovative ways to fund the entertainment business: There is no doubt that investments made in films can at times have phenomenal returns, but it is accompanied by a huge risk factor. This deters many financiers in today's era of economic flux. The seminar focussed on newer ways of gathering funds for the media and entertainment sector. A few interesting observations from the seminar were that banks weren't keen on setting up a panel that would evaluate the feasibility and potential of a creative project before investing in it. They would still bet on high profile stars as a security for getting their money back. Film-funds would be the best bet for someone planning to make a feature without the backing of the stars, but India...
