Billie Eilish’s Bond theme won outstanding original song for a drama or documentary, while “Just Look Up” — by Ariana Grande, Nicholas Britell, Kid Cudi and Taura Stinson, from “Don’t Look Up” — won in the category of original song for a musical or comedy.

When it comes to the Best Documentary Oscar race, it helps when films have a face that voters can root for. Sure, voters often want to reward a topic that feels relevant or important, and they surely desire quality filmmaking. But history shows that giving audiences a clear protagonist to follow and care about improves a movie’s chances of being nominated. With that in mind, Oscar pundits would be wise to keep an eye on “Nasrin” and its secret weapon: its fierce and endearing subject Nasrin Sotoudeh.
Directed by Emmy nominee Jeff Kaufman (“American Masters”) and narrated by Olivia Colman, the doc, filmed secretly in Iran, follows human rights lawyer Sotoudeh on her quest for justice against an oppressive regime. Many of her clients are set to be executed and she vigorously fights against the use of the death penalty. Her biggest cause, however, may be rebuffing unjust mandatory hijab laws for Iranian women.

My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has released his first official song of 2020, “Here Comes the End,” which comes from the new season of “Umbrella Academy,” the Netflix series based on comics and graphic novels created by Way and Gabriel Ba. The song features singer Judith Hill, who previously worked with Prince, Michael Jackson and Josh Groban.
About the song, Way said, “I was originally inspired to write this track when series one of ‘Umbrella Academy’ was being shot, by the time I finished it 2020 was in full swing, the world had taken a profound turn and the song was finished in a surreal new reality.” The song is released today with the trailer for the show’s second season, which will be available on July 31.
After a long hiatus, My Chemical Romance reformed late last year and had an extensive worldwide tour booked for 2020, which has been bumped to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Hostile Planet” has a truly shocking opening: a snow leopard, tasked with finding food in a rapidly advancing spring, tumbles with its prey 200 feet down the side of an impossibly steep mountain. In the context of a different nature series, that moment might be framed as an unfortunate instance of a predator victory.
For the series’ executive producer Guillermo Navarro, that opening not only signals what makes “Hostile Planet” different from other nature programming, it’s a testament to the persistence of the camera crew that captured the moment.
“They were not getting anything. Just glimpses of it, nothing to build a story from. They were running out of food, and they were very tired and cold. It was just a brutal effort. They asked to come back and we said, ‘Stay one more week.’ In the last three days of that week, they shot everything you saw. I don...

In the wetlands of northeast India, a group of kids had a dream to make it big as a rock band. Their instruments weren’t real, but that didn’t matter. Their dream was real.
“Children can dream no matter where they come from,” director Rima Das told TheWrap’s Steve Pond at a Q&A on Monday following a screening of her film “Village Rockstars,” India’s entry into the Oscar foreign film race.
The children’s dream and one camera were the only ingredients necessary to make “Village Rockstars,” a story following 10-year-old Dhunu, a young girl (played by Bhanita Das) with a dream to get a guitar and start a band with some friends. Her dream remains strong despite the world around her. Dhunu’s village is constantly hit with heavy floods and her widowed mother (Basanti Das) constantly battles adversity to support the family.

Not many can say they were the protégée and duet partner of two legendary artists in the last days of their lives — that is, unless you’re singer Judith Hill. In the past two years, Hill — who recently revealed in an interview with the New York Times that she was with Prince during an emergency plane landing the week before his death — worked closely as a collaborator and apprentice to the artist. In addition to having her debut album, “Back in Time,” produced by Prince, Hill performed and recorded with the artist at his Paisley Park estate and opened for him during.

He sang in front of a crowded audience that included singers Judith Hill and Janelle Monáe. The experience was incredible, according to audience member Celeste Headlee, and, now, even more poignant.
