Last year, author Grady Hendrix contributed the 29 page short story Ankle Snatcher (you can read it Here) to the Amazon Original Stories Creature Feature collection, which also featured stories by Joe Hill, Josh Malerman, Paul Tremblay, Jason Mott, and Chandler Baker. Now, Deadline reports that Sony has acquired the rights to make a feature film adaptation of Ankle Snatcher.
Hendrix’s story follows Marcus, who grew up believing his father killed his mother — then blamed it on the boogeyman under the bed. Always leave the lights on, his father warned, or the boogeyman will get you. Marcus still heeds the superstition, especially when he invites his new girlfriend over. Is Marcus haunted by a creature or has he just inherited his father’s murderous delusions? The night will tell.
Hendrix will be producing the film alongside Escape Artist’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Tony Shaw, and Aperture Entertainment’s Adam Goldworm.

It’s that time of year again. While some directors annually share their favorite films of the year, Steven Soderbergh lists everything he consumed, media-wise. For 2022––another year in which he not only released a new film, but shot another––he still got plenty of watching in.
Along with catching up on 2022’s new releases, he took in plenty of classics, including Sorcerer, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Battle of Algiers, All That Jazz, and All About Eve. Quite intriguingly, he also watched cuts of David Fincher’s forthcoming The Killer four times over a week-long span in August. Ahead of a February release, he’s also watched cuts of his forthcoming Magic Mike’s Last Dance five times, the first time being only two months after shooting began.
See the list below via his official site.

NBCUniversal wants to add an interesting new story to Jenna Bush Hager’s “Today” book club.
For nearly four years, the co-host of the 10 a.m. hour of “Today” has chosen a book each month for members of her “Read with Jenna” club to peruse and discuss. The selections typically focus on new authors and writers from diverse backgrounds who may not get the spotlight awarded to better-known contemporaries. Now, as part of a “first-look” production deal with Universal Studio Group, Bush Hager will have an opportunity to expand the stories she finds to other media. The pact was brokered by United Talent Agency, which represents Bush Hager.
“We just realized there is such an opportunity to make sure we are doing the best we can to highlight these authors and make sure their books live in other areas,” Bush Hager told Variety. Thirty of her selections have made the New York Times’ best-seller list,...

The National Book Awards on Wednesday gave its fiction prize to author Jason Mott, whose novel Hell of a Book chronicled a black author’s book tour interspersed with a young Black boy in the rural South, to highlight the 2021 winners list.
The honors, held remotely for the second consecutive year, are one of the most prestigious awards in publishing. Past winners include William Faulkner, W.H. Auden, and Ralph Ellison, and winning in this age of adaptation instantly elevates the author.
Mott said his work was selected a decade ago out of the “slush pile,” a publishing industry term for books that are unsolicited. The poet and author had three previous novels.
“I would like to dedicate this award to all the other mad kids, to all the outsiders, the weirdos, the bullied,” Mott said in his acceptance speech. “The ones so strange they had no choice but to be...

After selling rights to his first novel, "The Returned" to Brad Pitt's Plan B production company 2 years ago, which was then adapted for the small screen into the ABC series called "Resurrection" (starring Omar Epps), author Jason Mott has sold his second novel, this time to Lionsgate Entertainment studios, titled "The Wonder of All Things." Scheduled to hit book stores in September, "The Wonder of All Things" is described as a spellbinding tale of love, sacrifice and the power of miracles. The synopsis reads: On an ordinary day, at an air show like that in any small town across the country, a plane crashes into a crowd of...

Ok let's recap. 'The Returned' (Aka 'Les Revenants') is a French horror series from Fabrice Gobert, which in turn is based upon Robin Campillo's 2004 French movie 'They Came Back'. ABC's 'Resurrection', although extremely similar in its premise, is based upon the novel 'The Returned' by American author Jason Mott. So if you're still following then AandE have thrown another hat into the mix by ordering a new 10-part Us remake based of 'Les Revenants'. I really don't think Us networks give their American audiences much credit whatsoever when it comes ot foreign imports. The original French series (which will continue later this year) is such a fantastic piece of TV which is incredibly compelling and flawlessly acted why a remake even needs to be considered is beyond me. Instead of plugging money into an unnecessary redo how about reeducating audiences instead.

A&E has given a 10-episode series order to "The Returned" which, unlike ABC's "Resurrection," actually is a remake of the critically adored French zombie drama "Les Revenants." "Lost" veteran Carlton Cuse wrote the pilot script for "The Returned" and he will executive produce the series with "True Blood" veteran Raelle Tucker. Of course, now this means A&E will actually have to make a pilot for "The Returned," which becomes Cuse's second straight A&E pilot to get a direct-to-series order, following in the footsteps of "Bates Motel," which has already been renewed for a third season. This also becomes Cuse's third active TV production, as he's also showrunner on FX's "The Strain," which will have completed work on its first season before the vampire drama premieres in July. “’The Returned’ has the potential to be one of the most compelling drama series on cable, thanks to phenomenal scripts written by Carlton and Raelle,...

Suddenly, stories about the dead returning, without a horror element, are all the rage. In answer to The Sundance Channel’s “The Returned,” ABC is getting set to premiere “Resurrection,” based on the book “The Returned” by Jason Mott, which has no relation to the Sundance Channel drama. Confusing, huh? Imagine losing a child. It’s probably one of life’s most horrible occurrences. Now, imagine said child coming back thirty two years after he’d died, but still being a child, while you have aged. That is the premise of “Resurrection,” which in truth is a pretty interesting premise, but is it anything [...]

ABC's Resurrection sees dead people come alive again, but it's not related to The Returned. Except it is.
The drama, which premieres Sunday at 9/8c, is based on Jason Mott's best-selling book The Returned about people who come back from the dead. That's not to be confused with the critically acclaimed, similarly themed French series on Sundance Channel, The Returned, which is based on the French film Les Revenants and is being adapted by Lost's Carlton Cuse for A&E, or the fact that Resurrection refers to its walking dead as The Returned.

Returning from the dead has been all the rage – sorry – in TV land over the past few years. Of course we have The Walking Dead and several zombie-themed episodes on shows from Grimm to Castle, but lately there’s been a new kind of post-dead series making an appearance, that’s neither zombie-based nor ghostly. It’s people who just simply, inexplicably (at least at first) return from the dead.
There are a few such shows currently in development, but one has been on our screens recently, and another is coming our way in March. The first, the absolutely excellent The Returned, aired on The Sundance Channel in December. It’s a French series with subtitles, but gained quite the cult-ish following – including me – and a lot of critical acclaim. It has been picked up for a second season. We told you back in September that A&E is developing...

What if someone you lost, returned? Resurrection, ABC's spring drama based on the Jason Mott novel The Returned, asks that very question in the first official poster, which The Hollywood Reporter exclusively debuts. The hour-long drama centers on the residents of Arcadia, Miss., whose lives are forever changed when their loved ones return from the dead as if time never passed. Photos: 2014's New Broadcast and Cable TV Shows Instead of focusing on the sci-fi aspect of the story, the poster gives significant real estate to a mother cradling her young son, almost as if she is in

ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee was guilty of some wishful thinking this morning when he told TV critics he’s so proud of his network’s upcoming limited-series Resurrection because, among other things, it’s something he’s “not seeing on television at the moment.” Resurrection, premiering Sunday, March 9, is about a small town in Missouri in which people who have been dead for years have turned up alive again and not a day older than the day they died – starting with 8-year-old Jacob who died more than three decades earlier and suddenly turns up alone in a rice paddy in a rural Chinese province. Related: TCA: Paul Lee High On Marvel’s ‘Agent Carter’ Days earlier, Sundance Channel announced it had renewed for a second season The Returned, about a small French town in which some of the residents one day get on with their lives, not realizing...

One of ABC's midseason premieres is "Resurrection," the story of a young boy, Jacob (Landon Gimenez), who returns to his parents, Henry and Lucille Langston (Kurtwood Smith and Frances Fisher), 30 years after he was presumed dead -- but Jacob hasn't aged a day.
The show is based on the 2013 novel by Jason Mott called "The Returned" (not to be confused with the French series "The Returned" which aired on Sundance Channel, which is based on the 2004 French film "They Came Back"). Like the book, as "Resurrection" goes on, more residents of the small town of Arcadia, Mo have loved ones seemingly returning from the dead.
Executive producers Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas tell reporters at the 2014 TCA press tour that there is an on-going mythology of the show that they have mapped out, in addition to knowing where the series will end.

All that glitters is not gold and as such not every television series is as precious as we hoped it would be. There are a couple shows I watch now that I don’t even like but keep hoping they’ll get better because some shows have crappy first seasons but somehow get a second, and then actually do a decent job the next time around. In true TV loving form, I’ve compiled a list of shows to start in 2014 that I look forward to – giving a chance!
Intelligence
For me, my tuning in to Intelligence is solely for Sawyer from Lost, I mean, Josh Holloway. For his sake and my own, I really hope this show sustains itself, but I won’t hold my breath. Hurley’s Alcatraz and Locke’s 666 Park Avenue have both disappointed. Hey, if it doesn’t work out, can we get Sawyer on...

We chat to The Returned’s director and producer about zombies, French fantasy TV, genre, style, Mogwai, and more…
“No tradition, status: non-existent” is the unequivocal reply from film and television producer Caroline Benjo when I ask her about the status of fantasy and sci-fi television in France. “A bit of Franju in the seventies perhaps, with L’Homme Sans Visage…”. Writer and director Fabrice Gobert agrees, “It’s not a very developed genre in French television. Perhaps it’s a question of culture”.
That culture is changing, chiefly thanks to Benjo and Gobert, the producer and director of Canal Plus’ Les Revenants, which arrives on Channel 4 this weekend as The Returned.

Not much new programming from ABC to look forward to next season, as far as shows with black actors in lead/starring roles are concerned. Of course both Shonda Rhimes series - Grey's Anatomy and Scandal - are returning. But both are already in ABC's arsenal. Ashley Madekwe and Toks Olagundoye will return to their respective supporting roles in Revenge and The Neighbors, respectively. There's also Robert Wisdom in Nashville. One new series of note is Resurrection, which stars Omar Epps in the the top role, in the serial adaptation of author Jason Mott's debut novel, The Returned. Although it's a mid-season replacement, so...

An 8-year-old boy turns up, seemingly out of nowhere, in a field in China. An immigration agent learns where the boy lives and brings him home to his parents -- who believe their son died more than 30 years ago.
Yet here he is, looking just the same as he did the last day he was alive.
That's the jumping-off point for ABC's new series "Resurrection." The drama stars Omar Epps ("House") as the immigration agent, Martin Bellamy, and Kurtwood Smith ("That '70s Show") and Frances Fisher ("Eureka," "Titanic") as Harold and Lucille Garland, the parents of the suddenly alive again Jacob (Landon Gimenez). The Garlands won't be the only residents of their Missouri town to have this kind of experience -- other people's loved ones soon start to return as well.
"Resurrection" is based on the novel "The Returned" by Jason Mott and was adapted by "Damages" and "The Killing" writer Aaron Zelman.

In advance of next week's Upfront presentations by the major networks, we close out this week with word on which of ABC's two genre pilots got a new name and pickup order and which got the dreaded call saying it was a pass this time. Read on for the details.
On the "no" side is "Gothica," one that we were watching closely as it was described as a sexy Gothic soap set in the present day that weaves together a mythology incorporating the legends of Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstein, and Dorian Gray among others. Per Deadline, it had a good cast and some early buzz, but its premise of mixing famous horror literary characters just didn’t quite work.
On the other side of the spectrum, "Resurrection" is the new title of "The Returned," and not only is ABC moving forward with it for the 2013-2014 television season, but...
