Anchor Bay Entertainment has acquired worldwide rights to “Daddy,” a sci-fi film that will be released in 2024.
The news comes as Anchor Bay is being relaunched after Umbrelic Entertainment chiefs Thomas Zambeck and Brian Katz bought the company’s trademark. Anchor Bay was included in Starz’s 2016 sale to Lionsgate. Under Zambeck and Katz, Anchor Bay is looking to release genre films and cult favorites.
In the case of “Daddy,” the movie was co-written and co-directed by Neal Kelley and Jono Sherman in their feature debut. It stars Yuriy Sardarov (“Chicago Fire”), Jacqueline Toboni (“The L Word: Generation Q”), Pomme Koch (“WeCrashed“) and Britt Baron (“Glow”).
The film is set in a dystopian society where the state has the power to determine who can and cannot father children. Four men attend a government-mandated retreat in the remote mountains of California. When they arrive, there’s no guide or instructions waiting for them.

On January 18, 2004, Showtime made history with “The L Word”: a spaghetti-strapped melodrama about twiggy lesbians living against a golden-filtered backdrop of mid-aughts Los Angeles.
The stroke of entertainment genius from creator/executive producer Ilene Chaiken premiered that Sunday night in two parts, introducing a revolutionary cast of LGBTQ characters who would change the face and ritual of lesbian pop culture forever. From the moment Jenny (Mia Kirshner) laid eyes on Marina (Karina Lombard)…even before Bette (Jennifer Beals) and Tina (Laurel Holloman) tried to steal that dude’s sperm…or Shane (Katherine Moennig) showed up wearing that leather vest….countless TV-loving shes, theys, and gays saw themselves reflected in a fizzy fictional universe that was finally, mercifully grounded in a semi-authentic lesbian reality.
Fast forward to 2019; the reboot happened. Showtime’s “The L Word: Generation Q” served as both a revamp of the initial concept with new characters and...

Stanley Tucci spoke up in defense of straight actors playing gay characters, so long as it’s done “the right way,” and doesn’t slip into stereotypes, during an appearance on BBC Radio 4’s “Desert Island Discs” program.
Tucci, who is straight, has played a handful of gay characters over the course of his career. Most recently, he and Colin Firth co-starred in Harry Macqueen’s Supernova, a romantic drama about a gay couple who take a road trip after Tucci’s character is diagnosed with onset dementia. His...

Exclusive: The L Word: Generation Q is no longer available on Showtime’s streaming service and the Showtime Anytime app. The removal comes on the heels of the series’ cancellation by the network after three seasons.
While the sequel has been removed, the groundbreaking original L Word series remains on the service. As Deadline reported exclusively last week, a reboot, The L Word: New York (working title), is in development at Showtime with the 2004 series’ creator Ilene Chaiken attached.
The removal of The L Word: Generation Q also follows the purge of a number of short-lived Showtime series from the streaming platform at the end of January as part of Showtime’s integration into Paramount+, which includes the linear network being renamed Paramount+ with Showtime later this year. As part of the changes, the company will “divert investment away from areas that are underperforming” and that accounts for “less than 10% of our views,...

Showtime is closing the book on The L Word: Generation Q.
According to Deadline, the series has been canceled after three seasons on the premium cabler.
The news comes two months after The L Word: Generation Q Season 3, which means fans could be left pondering what happened next.
While Generation Q is done, L Word creator Ilene Chaiken is prepping a reboot of the original series for Showtime.
The potential series would be called The L Word: New York and would shift the action to -- you guessed it -- New York.
Generation Q was a continuation of the original series which aired on Showtime from 2004 to 2009.
It followed the lives of Bette Porter (Jennifer Beals), Alice Pieszecki (Leisha Hailey), Shane McCutcheon (Moennig), Dani Nùñez (Arienne Mandi), Micah Lee (Leo Sheng), Sarah Finley (Jacqueline Toboni), Sophie Suarez (Rosanny Zayas), Gigi Ghorbani (Sepideh Moafi), Angie Porter-Kennard (Jordan Hull) and Tess Van...

Exclusive: Showtime has opted not to renew The L Word: Generation Q for a fourth season. The drama of The L Word: Generation Q, Showtime’s reboot of the original, 2000s-era L Word, can be summed up by singer-songwriter Fletcher’s line in the just-released Season 3 trailer: “It’s the kind of sapphic chaos I live for.” In a press release, Showtime says Generation Q’s third season picks up right where the Season 2 cliffhanger left off — with Tina (returning L Word alum Laurel Holloman) asking Bette (Jennifer Beals) if she still loves her — and the season will “follow the cast of characters as they struggle with secrets, old scars and new flames on their search for ‘the one.’” “While [Bette and Tina] determine their future together, their daughter Angie (Jordan Hull) embraces her new freedom at college, finding love in all the wrong places,” the premium cable network adds. “At the bungalow, Finley (Jacqueline Toboni) returns from rehab and discovers news about Sophie (Rosanny Zayas) that threatens both her sobriety and their relationship.

"Do you feel like someone has been in the house?" ShineHouse has released an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Shot in the Dark, from director / actor Keene McRae making his feature directorial debut. This first premiered at a festival in the UK last year, and it played at the Boston Sci-Fi Film Festival earlier this year. Lawton, Nevada’s once successful writer—now small town pariah—William Langston, fights for his life as the final victim of a serial killer. Over the course of one day, William is captured and tortured. The pain launches him into the past where he is forced to confront his unresolved trauma of 'love lost' and the actions that led him into this trap. The film stars Kristoffer McMillan, Christine Donlon, Kelley Mack, Keene McRae, Jacqueline Toboni, Austin Hébert, and Brandon Sklenar. Yeah it looks very creepy with a more distinct style than most serial killer horrors,...

Billed as “Broad City” meets “Friday Night Lights,” the series will be executive produced by Welter, and will draw on her experiences as a trailblazer in the sport. Ellie Monahan, Will Ropp (“The Way Back”) and Jacqueline Toboni are attached as writers.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Lapse in Judgement,” the first season finale of “The L Word: Generation Q.”
Rosanny Zayas of “The L Word: Generation Q” is as conflicted about her character’s actions in the first season finale of the Showtime drama as many fans.
“I think everyone’s a bit conflicted,” Zayas tells Variety. “A lot of people will be like, ‘Pick Dani!’ And other people will say, ‘Pick Finley!’ Some people said that I should not get on a plane with either of them and just get on my own plane and just live my own life,” which is also another option.
In the episode entitled “Lapse in Judgement,” Zayas’ Sophie, who has been engaged to Dani (Areinne Mandi), not only slept with Finley (Jacqueline Toboni), but she also expressed hesitation when Dani suggested they just elope in Hawaii, rather than plan a big wedding.
