Late last fall, Syfy quietly launched the new 90-minute, late-night adult animation block — and it’s continuing to grow! The genre-focused block airs Saturdays at midnight with all original interstitial micro-content. The animation block titled “Tzgz” will expand with three new series and two upcoming pilots. The 3 new adult-angled animated series coming to the lineup are Wild Life, which was previously a 15-minute pilot; Dr. Havoc’s Diary, an acquired six-minute-long, 30-episode series; and Hell Den, which is getting a full second season of six 15-minute episodes created just for Tzgz. Details on those shows can be found below! Hell Den (Season 2) Straight to series order (6×15 min episodes) After an Uber-Apocalypse wipes out civilization, only one person miraculously survives: 12-year-old Andrew. With the last working TV and Vcr in existence, he invites a motley group of apocalyptic creatures into his house to watch weird cartoons and old movies. Hell...

As I sit here, writing my Bloodsucking Bastards review while glancing over my shoulder towards the only entrance to my cubicle, it’s easy to understand the true horrors of this wittily hilarious vampire splatterfest. One quote in particular hits home all-too closely, when a disgruntled character realizes how perfect his “fluorescent shithole” of an office is for a corporate vamp takeover, given how few windows permit the real world’s beauty from cutting through a demoralizing darkness.
Have we not all become bloodsucking drones, clocking in countless hours of work to achieve that next (meaningless) goal just to keep the numbers crunching and dollars flowing (most of which the average worker won’t see)? The horror of Bloodsucking Bastards is not found through vampire bites, but in stinging corporate satire that seems too smart for a horror comedy – and too damn real.

Bloodsucking Bastards
Written by Dr. God & Ryan Mitts
Directed by Brian James O’Connell
USA, 2015
What would happen if Joss Whedon and Mike Judge had a cinematic love child? If our puny human brains were capable of comprehending such unmitigated awesomeness, it would probably resemble something like Bloodsucking Bastards. A product of the Los Angeles comedy troupe, Dr. God, this satirical bloodletting starts a bit sluggish, but finishes with an inspired stream of gags and gore. Director Brian James O’Connell has a cult hit on his hands.
This won’t be the first (or last) review to describe Bloodsucking Bastards as Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the television juggernaut, not the abysmal film) meets Office Space. And what the hell is wrong with that, punk?!? Endearingly quirky, sarcastic beyond all measure, and painfully observant, there are more clever one-liners and non-sequiturs packed into this 80 minute bundle than any other 2015 comedy...

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m an easy mark for horror comedies, so it should be no surprise that I adored the hell out of Bloodsucking Bastards, the latest project from the comedic group Dr. God and the producers at Fortress Features (The Collector, The Collection). Like a mash-up of Office Space and Fright Night, Bloodsucking Bastards takes a little time to get going but when it does, the jokes fly almost as fast as the gore, resulting in a feel-good film that’s a wonderful tribute to vampires and raucously deconstructs the modern workplace as well.
Bloodsucking Bastards follows nice-guy Evan (Fran Kranz), the acting sales manager at a small corporate office whose awkward life is about to take an unexpected turn. Expecting to be promoted by his boss (Joel Murray), Evan gets passed over for the sales management position by Max (Pedro Pascal), the smooth-talking nemesis from Evan’s college days.

Horror and comedy have always gone hand in hand. Laughs often alleviate the tension and who doesn’t crack a smile at the goriest, over the top scenes of horror? But the true horror-comedy, a purposeful bland of the two genres can be trickier to pull off than you think. When it works, it can produce wonders such as Shaun of the Dead, Brain Dead and last years horror hit, Wyrmwood. But when it doesn’t work, eurgh… That’s when things can go horribly wrong. But what happens when the comedy takes over and the laughs outweigh the horror? Well you get fantastically funny, bloodsoaked comedy like Bloodsucking Bastards.

With a list of alumni that includes Amy Poehler, Eliza Coupe, and Eric Stonestreet, iO Theater provides improvisers the training and practice they need. Bathed in fluorescent lights, the telemarketing office where Evan (Fran Kranz of The Cabin in the Woods) works seems to be sucking the life out of his soul, but he’ll have to worry about the same thing happening to his lifeblood when a vampire takes his sought-after promotion. Such is the horror-comedy setup in Bloodsucking Bastards, a recent Slamdance screening that Shout! Factory just picked up:

The 2015 Slamdance Festival opened on Friday night with a splash -- or rather copious amounts of blood -- in Bloodsucking Bastards, a horror comedy directed by Brian James O'Connell and penned by Ryan Mitts and the Dr. God comedy group. The well-attended opening-night party included the cast and crew in attendance, and plenty of complimentary libations for attendees.
Not since the Spierig brothers' 2009 vampire horror movie Daybreakers have I witnessed such a deluge of fake blood, but the action and humor keep the gag reflex at bay in this film that has been aptly described as "Office Space meets Shaun of the Dead," but with vampires instead of zombies.
Fran Kranz stars in Bloodsucking Bastards as Evan, the acting sales manager in a regional office of a big corporation. He is frustrated with his current work situation with his co-worker and ex-girlfriend Amanda (Emma Fitzpatrick), as well as his slacker...

Festival resurges as launch pad for awards contenders while sales agents are prepared for healthy market
Those up in arms over Hollywood’s limited roles for women and minorities should be excited for the diversity of the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, which kicks off Thursday with no shortage of films that address the broad range of human experience, while renewing the festival as a key launch platform for awards season hopefuls.

CAA is “Sleeping With Other People,” UTA is taking “The D Train,” Alicia Van Couvering is “Digging for Fire” and WME will award “The Bronze”...
Buyers will be out in full force this week in Park City but with so many options to choose from, it helps to have a cheat sheet to prioritize the must-see acquisition titles at Sundance. After talking to buyers and sellers alike, here are the 10 most promising titles with the loudest buzz heading into this year’s festival.
The Bronze (WME)
What’s the Deal?: The highlight of Sundance’s opening night lineup is this raunchy comedy from director Bryan Buckley featuring co-writer Melissa Rauch in what could prove to be a star-making performance. The “Big Bang Theory” actress plays a washed-up Olympic gymnast whose local celebrity is threatened by the arrival of a promising young gymnast seeking a mentor. Sundance describes the foul-mouthed protagonist as “a lovably loathsome character who makes Tonya Harding look like Grace Kelly,” so perhaps this will be the next “Bad Words?”
First Screening: Thursday, Jan. 22, 9:30 p.m. – Eccles
Digging for Fire (Alicia Van Couvering)
What’s the Deal?: Jake Johnson and Rosemarie DeWitt play East L.A. parents on the verge of a nervous breakdown as they juggle marital and parenting duties. Things get weird when she enjoys a night on the town with her girls and he takes the opportunity to invite his buddies over for smoking, drinking and carousing. Joe Swanberg’s latest may be his most commercial film yet, and it certainly features his most high-profile cast. Between Anna Kendrick, Orlando Bloom, Brie Larson, Sam Rockwell, Chris Messina, Jenny Slate, Melanie Lynskey, Timothy Simons, Ron Livington, comedian Mike Birbiglia and veterans Sam Elliott and Judith Light, there’s someone for everyone.

A new dawn of artificial intelligence, a truck that’s literally fueled by zombies, neck-chomping co-workers, and much more. We’re back with another trio of trailers, this time featuring Chappie, Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead, and Bloodsucking Bastards.
“Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there’s one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.”
Directed by Neill Blomkamp off a screenplay he wrote with Terri Tatchell,...

At the same time, there's also the smaller Slamdance Film Festival, which is chock full of even smaller indie films, some of which have gone on to huge fame (Paranormal Activity launched at Slamdance). And now we have the first trailer for the film, which looks like it could be a fun, bloody little romp. Watch it below! Here's the first trailer for Brian James O'Connell's Bloodsucking Bastards from Fortress Features: Bloodsucking Bastards is directed by Brian James O'Connell and written...
