Exclusive: Zero Gravity Management has signed Arthur de Larroche, the writer, director and producer behind acclaimed indies Remy & Arletta and Clairevoyant. Reps for the filmmaker there will include Cameron Cubbison and Elissa Friedman.
“I’ve waited a long time to find the right team. People who support my drive and passion for film,” said De Larroche in a statement to Deadline. “Cameron and Elissa are those people and I’m lucky to add them to my team.”
Most recently, De Larroche helmed Remy & Arletta, a coming-of-age drama based on the same-name bestseller by Micaela Wittman, which hit theaters in limited release this fall and will debut on streaming in the spring. Written by and starring Wittman, the film centers on her character Remy, who latches onto her best friend Arletta (Riley Quinn Scott) as a coping mechanism to deal with her alcoholic and abusive mother (Amy Benedict).

Amazon Studios will produce “Invasion,” a sci-fi thriller that will be directed by BAFTA-winner Michael Pearce and will star Riz Ahmed and Octavia Spencer, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.
In “Invasion,” two young brothers go on the run with their father, a decorated Marine, who is on a rescue mission to save his boys from an inhuman threat. As their journey takes them in increasingly dangerous and unexpected directions, the boys will need to confront hard truths and leave their childhoods behind.
“Beast” filmmaker Pearce is directing from a script he co-wrote with Joe Barton. The producers on “Invasion” are Raw’s Dimitri Doganis, Piers Vellacott and Derrin Schlesinger.

As of June 4th, a 2011 drama called The Help ranks as the most-watched film on Netflix. The popularity of the movie – doubtlessly connected to the ongoing nationwide protests following the death of George Floyd – doesn’t sit well with many activists though, as it presents a skewed perception of African American life that doesn’t match the reality in which we find ourselves today.
Like the 1989 dramedy Driving Ms. Daisy, The Help is a pic about African Americans who find satisfaction in their position of servitude to whites, rather than act on some revolutionary desire for freedom, autonomy and fraternity. Written and directed by a white filmmaker (Tate Taylor) and based on a book written by a white author, the story of The Help can neither be considered authentic nor educative.
The film’s racially-biased plot certainly didn’t prove a hindrance during awards season, though. On the contrary, one...

Netflix in partnership with Un Women on Wednesday launched the series “Because She Watched” of movies and shows that feature women both in front of and behind the camera and aim to inspire the next generation of female viewers. Netflix’s latest coming of age series, “I Am Not Okay With This,” finds Sophia Lillis and Wyatt Oleff reuniting for the first time since their breakout roles as Beverly Marsh and Stanley Uris in Stephen King’s “It” film franchise.
Is it just us, or does the quaint, run-down mill town where “I Am Not Okay With This” is set look a lot like Derry, the fictional Maine town where “It” takes place?
In a recent interview with TheWrap, the young actors said it wasn’t on their minds while filming, but in retrospect, there are a lot of aesthetic similarities between the young adult series and the clown-themed horror film franchise.

Octavia Spencer is all about beautiful hair and Benjamins in the first trailer for Netflix’s “Self Made,” a limited series about Madam C.J. Walker, the trailblazing African American haircare entrepreneur who was America’s first female self-made millionaire.
In the video, which you can view above, Sarah Breedlove a.k.a. Madam Cj Walker (Spencer), says it’s time to tell her story.
“Seems like I was born to struggle,” she says in a voiceover, as we watch her scrubbing laundry. “After a while, I guess I just lost hope. That’s when my hair started falling out.”
She gets some help from a lady whose product helps her hair grow back, but when Walker offers to sell the haircare wonder for the woman, she tells her she doesn’t think sales of “for” Walker. That’s when Sarah decides to take matters into her own hands, doing...

Netflix is leaning into its strengths in 2020. Not only is the streaming giant pumping out dozens, if not hundreds of new shows, but many of their original series meet the demand illustrated by past successes or fill holes left by departing favorites.
So is there a new “Stranger Things” on the horizon? Perhaps a worthy follow-up to “Orange Is the New Black?” What about a replacement for syndicated sitcoms like “The Office” and “Friends”? You better believe Netflix is working to give subscribers what they want, and the below 2020 preview should illustrate exactly that.
With more competition than ever from Disney and Apple, and even more services on the way (hello HBO Max and Peacock), 2020 will be a critical year for the current king of streaming. So here’s what they’re working with:
“Locke and Key”
Release Date: Friday, February 7
