DC Studios is developing Booster Gold as a TV series for Max. While rumours of production beginning imminently appear to be incorrect, it seems casting may be heating up as the Dcu readies itself for a superhero unlike any other.
In the comics, Mike Carter was a college football star in the 25th Century who ruined his career by wagering money on his own games. Forced to take a job as a security guard in the Metropolis Space Museum, he stole future tech to travel back in time and become a "superhero" (all while hoping to monetise being a good guy).
He'd later become a genuine time-travelling superhero and is a character who might be a game-changer for the Dcu. While casting such a complex character won't be easy, we have some suggestions which could do Booster justice both on streaming and in theaters.

We know that a Booster Gold Max series is in the very early staged of development, but a recent rumor claimed that the project might be quite a bit further along than we realized.
According to the report, filming is scheduled for July, and the lead role has been cast - though there was no mention of which actor supposedly landed the part. Considering it's pretty much been radio silence on the show since it was first announced, this update seemed a little shaky, and DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn has now debunked the rumor.
The Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad director was asked if "the rumor that Booster Gold will be recorded on July 8th true? Will it be the next big Dcu series after Peacemaker Season 2 or will it be Amanda Waller's series" on his recent Ma and Pa Kent post, and responded: "Although...

Antony Starr is perhaps the face of morally complex characters in today’s day and age. From The Boys to Banshee, complexity is something he carries in front of the camera like no one else. The darkness within a character takes a great amount of skill to exude and that is something the actor excels at. The patience and dedication it takes is what fans appreciate wholeheartedly.

While Starr isn’t typecasted in the role of a character battling his inner self through the darkness within him, there is no doubt that he plays the part perfectly. He may not be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the DC Universe yet but he has shown through Homelander that a role in the franchises wouldn’t be an opportunity anyone would regret. As such, the possibility may be nigh.

Antony Starr does an incredible job as The Boys’ villain and main antagonist, Homelander. While playing a narcissistic, murderous, moral-less character can be tiring and challenging, the actor has done an incredible job throughout the Prime Video series. Slated to get even more unhinged in the upcoming Season 4 of the series, the actor’s performance is one of the main draws for fans of the series.

His impeccable portrayal of Homelander has not only made him famous but also seemingly opened a door of opportunities for him as fans have been busy casting him in various DC and Marvel roles. And after a recent update by James Gunn, the calls for him to play Reverse Flash have gained traction again.

DC Studios' "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters" slate left us with plenty to be excited about, but news of a Booster Gold TV series coming to Max was arguably among James Gunn's most thrilling announcements.
Fans have been waiting a long time to see the time-travelling superhero in live-action, and while Donald Faison briefly showed up in what would become Legends of Tomorrow's series finale following its cancellation, the character has yet to be given the chance to shine on screen (Eric Martsolf briefly played him in Smallville).
That will soon change, and all signs point to Xolo Maridueña's Blue Beetle joining the time-travelling superhero.
A recent Production List update suggested Booster Gold will start shooting in July. Now, scooper @MyTimeToShineH has chimed in, claiming that is indeed the case. Even more exciting, though, is the fact the character has supposedly been cast in the Dcu!

Since the Dcu is still in its development stage at the moment, there are a lot of decisions to be taken for the future of the franchise. Thus, DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran are still in the process of hiring new stars that will become crucial parts of the entire narrative going forward, which has led to a lot of speculations being put to the test.
James Gunn and Margot Robbie on the sets of The Suicide Squad
Among the many rumors that were being churned out, there was one that stated Booster Gold, a character from the pages of DC Comics might become part of the franchise’s events, which has not only been confirmed but has also been successfully assigned to a star. If Gunn’s early claims are true, many people believe that the actor that the role went to was none other than Chris Pratt.

Joel Kim Booster is sharing his thoughts on the future of artificial intelligence as a creator in Hollywood.
Ahead of the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards Sunday afternoon, the writer-actor-comedian spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the controversial technology that had sparked fears across the entertainment industry (and beyond) about AI displacing people from their jobs.
“I think if anyone’s job should be replaced by AI, it should be the execs, you know, in terms of the skill sets,” the Fire Island star explained. “I think it aligns a little bit more with what AI is able to do in terms of just sort of distilling algorithms and what can be bought and sold and things like that.”
Booster, who has worked in all facets of the industry, including writing, producing and acting, said that he is “absolutely” scared about what’s to come with AI.

The newest DC movie and the 14th installment of DC Extended Universe ‘Blue Beetle’ recently premiered in theaters. However, the movie didn’t really premiere with a bang, at least not in a commercial sense. The movie grossed merely $41.4 million worldwide during the opening weekend, which is shameful even when it’s compared to ‘The Flash,’ DC’s most recent box-office bomb, which grossed $139 million worldwide on the opening weekend.
We don’t want to play a general after a battle, but it was suspected that ‘Blue Beetle’ wouldn’t do well commercially, despite the fact that it’s undoubtedly the best-reviewed DC movie since last year’s ‘The Batman’ or, if we stick only to Dceu, since 2021’s ‘The Suicide Squad,’ which was also commercially unsuccessful, although that movie was released in theaters and on the HBOMax streaming service simultaneously. This certainly puts a big question on the future of Blue Beetle in Dcu,...

The Dcu is getting some new additions, because after finding his Clark Kent and Lois Lane, director James Gunn has also found another hero for his new cinematic universe, Metamorpho who will be played by ‘Barry’ actor Anthony Carrigan in ‘Superman Legacy’.

This Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 article contains spoilers.
One of the biggest thrills in a new James Gunn movie is seeing how he uses his stock company of players. Since his earliest days in the business, Gunn has loved bringing back actors from his other projects, making his brother Sean cameo as Calendar Man in The Suicide Squad, getting Nathan Fillion from his first feature Slither to play Simon Williams aka Wonder Man in unused artwork for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and even sneaking Troma founder Lloyd Kaufman into a big budget Disney movie for the first and third Guardians films.
But while Guardians Vol. 3 finally saw Fillion get a bigger part, and the move also brought back Old 97’s frontman Rhett Miller from the Christmas Special for a couple of shots, the most unlikely cameo involved a relative newcomer to the cast of Gunn players.

Hulu was one of the first streaming services on the market, and over the years, it also endured as one of the best in the game — home to a robust and diverse library, including a healthy chunk of the best 20th Century and Searchlight movies, standout original Hulu movies like “Fresh” and “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande,” next-day episodes from countless hit broadcast shows, FX series, and plenty of other must-watch shows and films from throughout the years (being one of the first in the game means Hulu also has a lot of great distribution contracts). And that’s without even touching the potential for add-on subscriptions.
In short, there are a lot of good movies to watch on Hulu so we’ve put together a handy list to help you stop scrolling and start watching — we even made the titles clickable so you can get right to it.

While details about the project are under wraps, Sandler did tell me Monday at the Gotham Awards that he’s going to have a much “different look” than he’s ever had. “I can’t say that I’m gonna look that handsome in it,” Sandler said. “It’s not a handsome moment…It’s gonna be tough.”
As for the storyline, Sandler would only say, “They’re working hard. Every time I talk to them they say they are working hand.”
Sandler starred in “Uncut Gems” as a Howard Ratner, a shady New York City jeweler with a gambling addiction.

Joel Kim Booster has indicated an interest in adapting more Jane Austen novels for the big screen.
The “Fire Island” writer/actor told IndieWire during the 2022 Gotham Awards that he is constantly thinking of how to turn Austen’s stories into modern queer interpretations. “Fire Island” was inspired by Austen’s “Pride & Prejudice,” and premiered on Hulu earlier this year.
“One of the reasons I wrote this movie in the first place is it’s a fun thought exercise to be like, ‘What are all the parallels? How can I make Wickham a modern day gay man? What is the calculus that’s going into these things?'” Booster said. “I love adaptation. Every time I read a Jane Austen book, I’m always like, ‘Oh, how can we make this gay?’ It’s just the way my brain is broken.”
He added, “It’s definitely something I’ve...

The festival, which takes place September 16-18, released its comedy lineup today, revealing that some of the biggest names in standup and podcasting will be making their way to Vegas this fall.
Highlights include standup performances from Joel Kim Booster, who’s hot off of his performance in the hit Hulu comedy “Fire Island,” and several stars of HBO’s “Hacks.” Both the Emmy-nominated Hannah Einbinder and Megan Stalter, who plays Kayla, will be performing sets at the festival. It’s been a busy Pride Month for Joel Kim Booster. In early June, Hulu dropped Fire Island, a queer rom-com written by and starring Booster that’s set against the summer tradition of gay men reveling in the New York locale of the same name. Significantly, the film places Noah (Booster) and Howie (Bowen Yang)—two gay…...

For all its glorious trappings, Apple TV+’s new comedy “Loot,” which follows a billionaire looking to reinvent herself for the better, is all about the “heart underneath,” said its Emmy-winning star and executive producer Maya Rudolph.
This much is evident in the cast’s praise of Rudolph and each other, and extends to the series’ unlikely assembly of characters, all of whom try to bring out the best in each other. The ensemble features Golden Globe-winner Michaela Jaé Rodriguez (“Pose”) as the stern yet passionate nonprofit organizer Sofia. She initially keeps Rudolph’s Molly Novak at arms length. As an audience stand-in, her Sofia delivers lines that dismiss Molly’s actions as “sick, rich-person s—.”
“I loved the complete, sheer differences between these two women and I definitely wanted to dive into it,” Rodriguez said, adding that she hoped (and knew) she and Rudolph would get along: “That’s...

Not looking to empathize with the brokenhearted woes of a billionaire? Well, we don’t blame you. But in Apple TV+’s upcoming Loot (the first three episodes premiere Friday, June 24), Maya Rudolph‘s well-intentioned divorcée might just win you over.
In the comedy created by Matt Hubbard (30 Rock) and Alan Yang (Master of None), Rudolph plays Molly Novak, a filthy-rich wife living the high life until she finds out her tech exec husband (Severance‘s Adam Scott) has been cheating on her with a much younger woman. From there, Molly must start anew — with an 87 billion settlement, of course.

In one of the only times anyone’s told Molly (Maya Rudolph) the hard truth in the decades since her husband (Adam Scott) became a billionaire, she’s stuck in a private jet hangar somewhere in the middle of Oklahoma. Having just tried essentially to airlift the staff of her foundation, which she only realized existed after very messy public divorce, to Miami for the weekend, Molly’s forced to face the fact that she’s been living in a completely different reality from 99.9 of the rest of the world.
“Your life is different from everyone else’s here. It’s completely frictionless!” explains Sofia (Michaela Jaé Rodriguez), her perpetually unimpressed foundation director. “Anything you want to happen, happens.” Our lives are filled with friction … You can’t just pack us up and move us around like we’re luggage.”
This crucial scene marks a turning point for Molly, who...

Matt Rogers is having an incredible summer. In May, Showtime’s comedy series I Love That for You, co-created by Vanessa Bayer, launched its first season. Starring Bayer as an aspiring host for the fictional home shopping network Svn, the show is set within the comically cutthroat Svn offices run by a commanding and terrifying Patricia Cochran (Jenifer Lewis). Rogers plays Patricia’s right-hand man, Darcy, who envisions himself as something bigger than an assistant but is often relegated to the menial tasks assigned to him.
“He wants status so badly, and that’s what I most like about playing him,” says Rogers, 32, who as a comedian and sketch performer in New York City often created characters for himself that were both ambitious and delusional. “The people that inspire me the most don’t take themselves too seriously, and I think the funniest people are those who,...

Joel Kim Booster is having a month.
The comedian, writer and actor is fresh off his well-received screenwriting debut Fire Island, a queer spin on Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice, and rolling right into the release of his first Netflix comedy special, Psychosexual. Topically, the two projects are so complimentary they could be watched as a double-feature.
But the one-hour comedy special from the Los Angeles-based multihyphenate offers a more direct look at who Booster is, personally and creatively. A three-act takedown of what he’s faced over the course of his artistic career, Psychosexual sees Booster dissect how he’s dissected by audiences through a series of jokes for (and not for) said audiences.
Seemingly a declaration that the comedian is no longer concerned with others’ concerns, Psychosexual offers a hilariously biting deconstruction and reconstruction of Booster’s identity onstage; a...

Money can’t buy happiness — but stacks of cash with Maya Rudolph’s face printed on them can get you pretty close. Happiness was certainly in the air on Wednesday evening at the West Hollywood premiere for Apple TV+’s upcoming comedy Loot, especially for star and executive producer Rudolph.
“It was a joy,” Rudolph told The Hollywood Reporter about working on the project. “Making any production in Covid is stressful and can be scary, and knowing that we were going to have those days where I got to be with the group was truly the joy. I feel really lucky that we got the group that we got, and I think they do too.”

In the Andrew Ahn-directed Fire Island, odes abound to Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice. Not just in the dialogue or characters, who are modern queer spins on the Regency-era ensemble, but in entire scenes that serve as direct callbacks or references to the original book or its various screen adaptations.
In one notable sequence, the film recreates Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy’s iconic rain interaction from the 2005 Joe Wright-directed movie starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. Set between Noah (Joel Kim Booster, who doubles as writer) and Will (Conrad Ricamora) as they make their way through the meat rack, the verbal spar-turned-near-kiss is one of the clearest ways Fire Island pays homage to the Pride & Prejudice-adapted universe.
But it does so through a distinctly queer lens, from its director to its writer to its leading actors, delivering a...

Photo: ‘Fire Island’ Brief Overview This silly and wild romantic comedy is a great start to kick off Pride month this June 2022. Filled with witty one-liners, a Charli Xcx reference, and loveable characters, ‘Fire Island’ is an entertaining watch that encompasses both friendship and identity. The movie is directed by Andrew Ahn who directed films such as ‘Spa Night’ and episodes from ‘MacGyver’ and ‘Generation’. In addition to Ahn, Joel Kim Booster is an upcoming comedian who starred as the main character of the film. ‘Fire Island’ became Booster’s debut as a screenwriter. The story is absolutely unapologetic and a fun watch for the summertime. Matt Rogers got to live the dream in the summer of 2021. That's when he and two of his very best friends - Joel Kim Booster and Bowen Yang - brought to life the script for "Fire Island," written by Booster and inspired by their real-life adventures. "I live under a lucky star," he tells Popsugar. "Seriously."
"When you're doing a movie that is about friendship and that is about chosen family, to be there with your literal sisters does a lot of the work," he explains. " I think we're good performers, but I also think we're great friends."
For "Fire Island," Booster mapped the plot of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" on a group of gay friends spending a week on Fire Island. The area is a historic gay vacation getaway on Long Island, partially because, for decades, it gave LGBTQ+ people a place to socialize outside of the eyes of straight society.

[The following story contains mild spoilers for Fire Island.]
If a person’s Instagram can reveal even a bit about who they really are, then the profile of one Fire Island character is practically giving away his twist.
In the Andrew Ahn-directed and Joel Kim Booster-written take on Pride & Prejudice, Zane Phillips plays Dex, the modern gay spin on one of Jane Austen’s more duplicitous bachelors: George Wickham. The actor behind the attractive, sex-positive island visitor is first introduced to Booster’s Noah, a gay and expectedly bitey version of Elizabeth Bennett, while the duo are both shopping at the island pantry.
The two characters have head-spinning chemistry, but another one of the guys in Noah’s Fire Island orbit, Will — played by the dashing Conrad Ricamora, the Hulu movie’s take on Mr. Darcy — wants Noah to know something about his new suitor. While dropping a vague warning,...

“Fire Island” ignited a viral Twitter debate on June 7 over gender representation, but now the Bechdel Test creator herself, Alison Bechdel, has issued the last word.
The conversation began after New York Magazine podcaster Hannah Rosin tweeted, “So Fire Island gets an F- on the Bechdel test in a whole new way,” citing the lack of female characters in the queer Aapi reimagining of Jane Austen’s “Pride & Prejudice,” aside from Margaret Cho’s mother hen onscreen persona.
The Bechdel Test is formally “a set of criteria used as a test to evaluate a work of fiction, such as a film, on the basis of its inclusion and representation of female characters.” The criteria tested is that a film must include at least two women, they must interact with each other, and their conversation must be about something other than a man. It originated, however, as a joke in...
