The "gang" from the original series has only 4 returning characters and now follows them through college. The 4 remaining characters are Zach (The Popular Pretty Boy), Slater (The Jock), Screech (The Nerd), and Kelly (The Pretty Cheerleader). We are shown some new characters who are, in my opinion, better than some from the original.
The show is funny (unlike the original) and should've lasted much longer than just 19 episodes.
