8/10
very excellent silent film

Warning: Spoilers
It's very rare when I watch a silent film...and want to keep on watching it. This film is rare. From the credits I was enthralled by this sweeping drama. I especially liked the man who played Cyrano. Just the right combination of wit and pathos. Of course, the story is superb and moving. The main negative aspect of it is the acting, besides Cyrano's. It is stagy and overwrought at times. But it's forgivable, for actors were still trying to adapt from stage to movies. Besides, there are so many images in it that still haunt my mind: (SPOILER WARNING) the tear on the letter, "your nose...is rather large," Cyrano telling his friend that she loves him, Cyrano dying but still fighting. (END OF SPOILER) A little gem from another age in film. 8.5/10- flawed masterpiece
