A surprisingly deft and engaging film about life
23 August 2001
"Le pique-nique de Lulu Kreutz" never aspires to be more than a series of character studies about a group of intelligent but neurotic upper-middle class intellectuals at a beautiful resort in Evian, France. But it does so with remarkable insight and resonance. A very witty and very true script is given gravitas by a light director's touch and, above all, exceptional acting from a group of great French actors. A quiet, unassuming but very touching tour-de-force...as only the French seem to know how to do.
