Warning: Spoilers
It is always disheartening for me to hear terrible reviews on a movie, only later to watch in awe as it evolves into something beautiful. It is sad (in my opinion) that everyone has somehow missed the point here. I will admit I have a bias to what I refer to as a "moralist" picture, That is, a movie with an underlying plot that somehow brings a character to a greater enlightening. Though K-pax's moral is not deeply hidden, I believe it has not yet been completely grasped, at least by the reviews I wasted my time reading. It's true, this movie is not for the A.D.D. as it can be slow at times, but never boring. Bridges and Spacey are at their best, especially the hypnotizing scenes, and both are underrated.Ok, here it is, the part I like......

Warning! Spoilers!

What keeps our interest is the ongoing "is it true, or isn't it" debate. At times you think it must be, and as the story unfolds it appears false. It flips you around from time to time often making you wonder how in the world can they end this.

Well what I didn't catch until the very end is that not only had Prot taken the body of Porter, but he had specifically taken Porter's body for Dr. Powell's purposes. Thus the unusual knowledge about the doctor at their first meeting. The unfortunate circumstances that afflicted Porter were what Prot used to affect Powell. If Powell hadn't found out about Porter's past, he never would have realized how much he had taken for granted his own family, and reconciled with his son. It is interesting to recall Prot's statement about soap bubbles. Prot became Powell's soap bubble; he took the form that was necessary for not only Powell's healing, but also many others in the psych ward.

I put a heavy priority on family. Dr. Powell's neglect of his own, could have been the downfall of his second marriage, instead we are led to believe he has been awakened. Though the Sci-Fi aspect is tough to let in, it is effective. Maybe this one goes out to the work-aholic with a family at home.
