one line summary

With most movies and tv shows it's usually pretty clear who you're supposed to sympathise with and when, but this show just leaves me puzzled. The wife seems to be the only sympathetic character. It sometimes seems like the viewer is supposed to be torn between whether or not to sympathize with the husband, but for the most part he is a slimy weasel with no redeeming qualities. If I didn't know better I'd speculate that the character was written by an angry feminist, but considering we know the show is written by a man, I find it hard to know where he's coming from. The main character's friends and co-workers all seem to have the same misogynistic slimy weasel mentality, like they're all carbon copies of each other. There isn't a single "nice guy" character in the mix at all. It also seems almost inconceivable that the husband could have ever landed the wife, or even would have wanted to go through with the ceremony anyway. We don't witness the presumable slow decay of the marriage to get to the point where all the husband can think about is cheating on his wife, and the only time he's interested in talking to her is to make sure she doesn't think something is going on, but it's difficult to imagine how they ever could have had any good times.
