Review of Lavender

Lavender (2000)
9/10
I almost totally disagree

I agree that the most compelling story was that of an older woman clinging to her youth so much that she would lie about her adventures. But I disagree that the movie was corny. The shoes, the friendship with chow-chow, the out-all-night parties, represent the innocence of the angel. The director was trying to express that innocence rather than just assume everyone believes angels are innocent. Chow-chow was a bit stereotypical, but that's because he could never bring himself to believe the angel.

The bull in the field with the balloons was a resolution of Athena's feelings for her lost love. It was a message to her that he was there and he understood her feelings and it was time for her to move on. It was almost permissive in nature.

But what I thought was the best part of the movie was the ending. It left me wondering if she was hallucinating, delusional, or whether the angel was so in love with her that he came back.
