This movie is based off of a novel, Kouga Ninpou Cho, by Futaro Yamada. A manga series and anime series, called Basilisk: The Kouga Ninja Scrolls, are also based on this novel. Out of all of these mediums, I prefer the anime. The movie was OK but I had already seen the anime which went into more detail, because it could. Because the anime is a 24 episode series the story followed ten and not five shinobi from each clan. The art work is wonderful, all the characters are more fleshed out than in the movie and each characters power makes more sense.
