I hate to be a stereotype, but I am a woman and I love musicals. I really love them. I have everything from South Pacific, Singing in the Rain, Funny Girl,Fiddler on the Roof, Grease, Dirty Dancing, all the Disney animated movies and High School Musical in my video collection. I will admit I was almost as excited as my children about HSM2 coming out- almost. I am also old enough to know sequels usually do not hold up to their predecessor. HSM2 is best described as a quagmire. You see, HSM was such a success Disney had to start filming the sequel quickly to cash in. Hence, they took a lot of "parent generation favorites" scene ideas and let the music crew work their magic, and wallah they've got a movie to release.
Grease, of course, and is referenced in the movie. Footloose, Troy's angst scene could have been performed in a mill and would have been very close to Ren's. Dirty Dancing, especially the end when the entire cast dances their way to the stage. Last, but not least, Grease 2. The pool luau, the trying to be something your not, and the "coming to your senses and telling the girl and not losing her" thing. But, all my children loved it. It was original to them. And I did enjoy looking for "Waldo" (other Disney sitcom stars-IE. Miley Cyrus, etc.)
