AVH: Alien vs. Hunter (2007 Video)
7/10
Good job for a low budget feature
23 December 2007
I watched Alien vs. hunter and for what it's worth, I liked it. No, it didn't have a 20 million dollar budget but you can tell the actors were really trying to make the best of it. I liked the special effects. Anyone, I mean anyone can make a bad movie with enough money thrown at it. For example, I just watched "Hot Rod." It is probably the worst film I've ever seen. On the other hand, Alien vs. Hunter is better and that says a lot considering that one had a huge budget and the other didn't. I am a filmmaker and am working on the editing of my project titled Predator World: Terra Firma. I'm using a Sony HDR SR1 and a HC1 (1440x1080i). I would like to recommend the following to the director and DIT/DP. Use a blue tooth wireless microphone. It is amazing at 5.1 Dolby surround sound and a 100-foot crystal clear audio range. You can purchase a SR1 online now for $400.00 and just use it for sound if you have a HVX-200 or Z1U etc. Also, have more cut away shots so the scenes aren't as choppy. Switch camera angles on the main characters so that the audience can anticipate drama. One item on set that is really worth it is a boom arm. Not to forget, the NTSC disc I got at Blockbuster has a red color shift. Hence, I think you guys used HDV. I like to take away some red range of color by using gels or just use scrims. If I don't have a lot of time on set, try using GE REVEAL LIGHTS (Home Depot). Yes, it is like a sunset effect but when you adjust the red out you can get a great skin tone that transfers to NTSC from HDV or AVHCD. If you hate generator noise, go to Costco and buy a portable 400-watt generator for $79.00. It can run a few lights for several hours and weighs 30lbs. No noise. Lastly, shoot in Arizona for your next project. Need tactical gear and troops? We also have much better landscapes than California and the department of taxation will give you big breaks/refunds. Need actors and crew to shoot in AZ? I can arrange it.
