Decent Installment in the series
24 February 2009
This is the third installment in the Underworld franchise, though it is set as a prequel. It also appears that they have neatly sewn up the entire series, with little to no intention of adding any other stories. This picture was very well done, and for fans of the first film, an enjoyable and satisfying installment. The film makers give us a clearer picture of the origins of both the Vampires and Lycans in the world they created.

Clearly the female lead was essentially a carbon copy of Kate Beckinsale's character in look, dialog, attitude, etc. It might have been a bit more interesting to have taken Sonja's character in a somewhat different direction, as we'd already gotten the rebellious vampire chick. Bill Nighy is great as always. Though his character is extremely unlikable in this film; ruthless, plotting and selfish. But that is in accordance with the rest of the series.

As this film takes place before the invention of firearms, it was interesting to see the use of hand to hand combat and sword play for the fight sequences. Something we only got a bit of a taste of in the first two installments. And the action sequences were well done. Overall the movie was good, a must for Underworld fans. However, this is definitely much more of an action flick, than a vampire or werewolf movie.
