Review of Echoes

Alias: Echoes (2005)
Season 4, Episode 8
8/10
It's official: "Alias" is back on the right track
4 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
When Sydney's old enemy Anna Espinosa resurfaces, Sloane temporarily surrenders the command of the APO unit to Jack Bristow, because Anna is among the list of names that Sloane is not allowed to deal with. Jack sends his daughter to find out what Anna is up to - but Anna is not an easy target: she kidnaps Nadia and forces Sydney to carry out a dangerous assignment posing as her. It turns out that Anna is working for CRF, a terrorist group that consists mostly of ex-Covenant members; and who does the CIA have in custody with strong Covenant ties? Sark, that's right. But will they get the information they need from him in time, before CRF finishes building....whatever it is they're building? Well, it took them a while, but finally the "Alias" we love is back: "Echoes" is a perfect combination of action "in the moment" (like the highly entertaining Sydney-Anna fight inside a Beverly Hills boutique) and larger, continuing story lines that develop over many episodes. Rambaldi is back, the cliffhangers are back, the Covenant - OK, it's CRF now - is back, Sark is back (and he never should have left, to be honest: David Anders is awesome), Anna Espinosa is back (Gina Torres is an Amazon, I always come back to this word to describe her) - and if all that is not enough, Nadia kills a guy with her belt! Gotta love that. *** out of 4.
