Worth seeing for Anne Alvaro
26 February 2010
Well, there are many things in this film that are pretty silly. The scene of "Che" and "Fidel" sitting around, smoking cigars, and talking about what Sartre books they've read, for example, rates pretty high on the unintentional comedy scale. But the film is still worth seeing for Anne Alvaro's performance as Simone de Beauvoir. Even though they seem to have forgotten to write her any lines, she is so expressive with her face and body that it doesn't seem to matter much. She also bears an eerie resemblance to the actual woman. If you enjoyed her as the actress/French teacher in "Le Gout des Autres," you should also check out her work here. What a talent!
