Review of Repli-Kate

Repli-Kate (2002)
6/10
Disappointing
31 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Brilliant but nerdy research scientist Max inadvertently creates a replica of gorgeous journalist Kate, and chaos ensues.

This is a fun idea, and James Roday and Ali Landry are engaging as Max and Kate.

Now we get to the negatives:

1. Desmond Askew is simply awful as Max's crass and idiotic buddy Henry;

2. The science aspect, while only a maguffin, needed a little more attention devoted to it (cloning does not produce fully grown clones, for instance);

3. Max's crass and idiotic buddy Henry is awful;

4. Max's behaviour is even less credible than most protagonists in this kind of movie;

5. Eugene Levy does not play an unsympathetic character as well as a sympathetic one;

6. His comedy moustache is neither necessary nor funny;

7. Todd Robert Anderson's irritating lab assistant is irritating but not funny:

8. Henry, Max's crass and idiotic buddy, played by Desmond Askew, is awful. Profoundly. I'm not sure I conveyed this adequately.

9. The script is.... not great.
