A matter of trust

Warning: Spoilers
Sydney's mother, Irena Derevko, has handed herself in to the CIA but refuses to speak to anybody apart from Sydney; something she point blank refuses to do. When SD-6 sends Sydney to get an item of Irena's known as 'the bible' Vaughn goes to see her to find out any information that might help Sydney. She says that there is an alarm that will be tripped if the fire alarm next to the safe is not set off first... Sydney doesn't trust her, the alarm goes off and SD-6 gets the item! With the information contained in 'the bible' Sloane sets about blackmailing somebody to acquire needed technology; if the CIA are to prevent him from getting it Sydney will have to see her mother. While this is going on Will is getting on with the rest of his life; he may have to go to rehab, pick up litter for a hundred hours and live with the fact that almost everybody he knows now thinks he is a lying junkie but at least SD-6 are no longer interested in him.

I preferred this to the opening episode of the season; there were some fine action scenes and why Irena Derevko turned herself in remains a mystery; I suspect it will for some time. Lena Olin does a fine job as Irena; keeping her character a mystery so the viewer has no idea if she has really decided to work for the good guys or if it is all part of some dastardly plan. It was good to see Terry O'Quinn return as FBI Assistant Director Kendall; it looks as if another quality actor will be becoming a series regular! The way things are going I have a feeling this will be another good series.
