Review of Dirch

Dirch (2011)
1/10
Yet another depressing danish movie

Warning: Spoilers
Dirch is not a very good film.

All though I'm a dane, I was only 6 years old when Dirch Passer died so I did'nt follow his career and I do'nt consider him to be funny.

The movie about his life fails on all levels. And here is why.

Nikolaj Lie Kaas, does not look anything like Dirch. Which makes it hard to believe in the character.

The movie focuses only on his stage-career, as if that was the only thing he did. Dirch made many movies, besides from his stage-comedy.

Dirch had children with several women. Who he had which children with is not described very well. And the actresses playing those women do'nt do a good job. Especially not the one he has his second child with. Badly played by Laura Christensen.

Dirch is described as a clown. Also in his personal life. A guy who never really grew up, because people would'nt let him. And I do'nt think that portrayal is fair to Dirch.

The ending is really stupid. Dirch dies on stage, which he also did in real life. But then after he is dead, we see a stage act with his stage partner Kjeld Petersen which is suppose to be a way to say goodbye to him, instead of just watching him die.

The movie is extremely depressing like all danish movies are and it only focuses on the negative parts of Dirchs life.

It is a pointless and unnecessary movie.

Avoid it, especially if you don't really know who Dirch was. The movie wo'nt make you any wiser as to who he was.
