A 15-minute 'short', touches on technique for cult recruitment.

Warning: Spoilers
I saw this film short as a DVD extra for the full-length movie 'Martha Marcy May Marlene'. The latter is an open-ended movie, it has neither a beginning nor an end, but examines a few months in the life of a young adult female who decides to slip away and leave a cult, trying to return to a more normal life.

While the writer/director was getting ready for the 'M-M-M-M' movie, he wrote and filmed this short. As is explained in the DVD extra, he wanted to explore the techniques used by cults to recruit new members, particularly the pretty young ladies who cook and clean for, and 'service' the men of the cult.

They had little resources, and only about $500 available, so they went on a drive with the camera. Essentially the male character is a recruiter, he gets a young lady to trust him, to become his girlfriend, then takes her on a ride then a walk through the forest to the compound the cult occupies. He introduces her around, then leaves, telling her he will be back shortly.

For such a simple and inexpensive project it is done rather well. The video is nicely high-definition and the sound is good. I have no idea if this is at all accurate, but it is intriguing.

Be sure and see it if you see 'M-M-M-M' on DVD.
