I find it very interesting as to the applause for this show's pilot, being a fan of the original series (that also owns the complete series collection) would see many reasons for one to hate this show. On the contrary however, many people are liking this here on IMDb and NBC's website in some are even asking for NBC to "please pick up this show".
I am just going to give this show a chance, my parents would absolutely hate the pilot disliking it for its darker tones. I can't tell much from just the 1st episode, because by picking it up this show could go anywhere from even more darker or less darker as the characters adapt to normal human lives based on what Season One's plot will entail.
It is truly an re-imaging of the original series, but meant to appeal to an adult audience who likes the overall theme even though it was rated TV-14.

It certainly isn't a comedy and is a drama included with at some dark humor.
