This has more character development and a little more darker. Than the brighter colors of Miami and the humor of the original in Las Vegas.
Plus it comes off with better actors and actress and great writing with Gary Sinese as a better actor. And a better ensemble cast. As they get into the characters that you forget that they are actors for an hour.
It is set in NY. And that they are living in a post 9/11 world. Due to the fact that the lead character, Mac Taylor's wife, that is Sinese's role died in the attacks.
That is one of the reasons for the darker tone due to post 9/11. But nonetheless the cases are more grittier but the dry humor is there for them to ease the pain of living there post 9/11.
If LV is the original, Miami is the soul, then NY is the heart of the show.
