OK. I have read the series that this book is based on, and compared to that book the movie was disappointing. There are so many changes, missing characters, and missing details that if they were to continue on and make the next book into a movie, it would be vastly different from the original. The ending of the movie completely screwed up the plot lines for the rest of the book series. The missing characters throw the story out of whack. I cannot see a way of fixing the mistakes made in this movie, so that the story line can be put back on track.
Now, if I set the fact that I read the book aside, and try and wipe the slate clean of the fact that I already know what was supposed to happen. I believe the movie was rather good. I enjoyed the twists in it and believe it made the alternated events situations work in some ways.
All in all, a movie is just that...a movie. I enjoyed it to a point, and even though it was changed from its original inspiration, I still would recommend those readers with open minds who aren't dead set against change to see it. If they decide to continue on I will be amused to see how they intend to reconcile the differences.
