Supposedly based on a Leo Tolstoy's Master and Man, it feels forced and pointless after what could have been an excellent, extended plot and character development setup. The actors and film crew developed the base for sustained interest, and even the writer insofar as the character development.
About 2/3 of the way, the writer is lost and in need of creative help to try to integrate his story with Tolstoy's. It may be he simply wanted too much for it end in a modern day version of Tolstoy's ending. Maybe he wanted to make a deep point, but the allegory gets lost after some too-stupid-to-believe acts lose the immersion and believability the story had setup to that point. It feels like the writer/director gave up on this as much as his characters eventually do.
It's a tragedy the story failed to live up to all the impressive work the film crew put in to make you feel the snow, ice, and people of Colorado.
