The Greatest Snooze Ever Sold
17 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I'll start off what I liked about the film/factfictionfilmentary. I like when Morgan is down in South America, and there are no advertisements anywhere. That makes one very aware of how peaceful it can be without so much junk ads infesting our cities. It was actually a breath of fresh air to see.

Also, I like where Spurlock points out that 'this' is the movie, breaking that 4th wall with the audience and the paradox. It is a moviementary about a guy making a movie, the same concept as the film Adapation. That part of this filmentary is cool.

Also, Spurlock raises good questions about 'what is selling out'. The stereotype of a sell out is pretty clear. I think most of us in the end do what we have to do to keep our careers going, and the same goes for anyone who is an A/B-List artist.

They have to get their face out there, keep their brand going, and pick their battles on how they get their faces out there. But we all do what we have to do. But there is a difference between that and selling out.

Also, it was cool to see how one has to play ball. Spurlock wanted to do some funny commercials but he had to do what appealed to the masses, so in the end, he had to make plain boring commercials. Most commercials insult ones intelligence, however market research is done on what people want and that research has found that most people in North America respond best to products when they see commercials that insult ones intelligence and that are plain dumb, which are the ones we usually see on TV. I'm not saying anything about people in the United States. I'm just saying sometimes the proof is in the pudding.

The problem with this moviementary is the fact that it's nothing new. If Spurlock would have made this film 20 years ago, it would have been some groundbreaking, shock value stuff. But all that he's talking about, we all know this stuff, even the dumbest of people are aware of this stuff. There's no shock value, or any groundbreaking material.

For the most part it's stuff we already know therefore it's pretty redundant, and so one hopes that the pacing of the movie will be dazzling, but it's not. The pacing is pretty slow and boring, which turns this one into the greatest snooze ever sold as you may find yourself falling asleep here and there during the greatest snooze.
