To celebrate the 2012 London Olympics the BBC went back to the 1948 London Olympics for this docudrama based on true life events.

The London Olympics after World War 2 was hastily arranged at short notice by the British government even though there was post war austerity.

Matt Smith plays the working class Bert Bushnell who is hoping to compete at the single sculls but is teamed up with journalist Dickie Burnell portrayed by Sam Hoare from a privileged background and wants to please his distant but establishment father who it turns out was an Olympic medallist himself.

The pair start of coldly as they look to be mismatched before they bond and compete effectively.

The film is a slight tale, the performance are mainly perfunctory, Geoffrey Palmer stands out as Dickie's father with his sporting cap but the drama is rather plodding and dull when it needed to have more verve.
