Set in 18th century France, Oscar-winning short The Two Mouseketeers sees Tom assigned to guard a lavish banquet from Jerry and Nibbles, a pair of swashbuckling swords-mice with massive appetites.
This might have won an Academy Award, but it is far from my favourite Tom and Jerry short: not only does The Two Mouseketeers feature Jerry's horrible little mouse sidekick Nibbles (whose sickeningly cute voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me), but it ends with poor Tom being beheaded by guillotine after failing to do his duty. I know it's only a cartoon, and that Tom would return alive and well for his next caper, but I find the idea of the poor cat having his head lopped off rather unsettling.
I rate this one 4/10 for the cruel ending (although I probably wouldn't have been so harsh with my score had it been Nibbles with his head in the guillotine).
