Definitely A Bygone Era...
8 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
What, exactly, can you squeeze into a film, when it barely runs into a hour? Lots of on-stage musical numbers, some shapely legs, Marilyn Monroe gorgeousness and a rather thin plot about a mother and daughter falling in love, that's what.

It's interesting more as a time capsule these days than a motion picture which stands on it's own merits. Sure, some of the showtunes are bouncy, and the performances are universally fine, but everything from the conflict, to the resolution is as mapped out as an OCD sufferer's checklist.

No, where the movie REALLY fascinates is the lives of the 'lives' of the women. Everything they talk about, everything they think about, all their interactions... Revolve around men. They're either all trying to get dates, fighting each other over dates or trying to look as nice as possible... All to get dates. Validation by men is literally, the only thing keeping them going.

There's a relatively new thing out, called The Bechdel Test. Basically what it means is: You take ANY film or TV show and ask yourself three questions about it:

1. Does It includes at least two women? 2. Do they have at least one conversation? 3. Is it about something other than a man or men?

Guess which would fail No 3. I'm not trying to get on my soapbox... Just thought, on the day after International Women's Day, it was worth mentioning, that's all... 5/10
