Don't get me wrong this show is well made, well written and well animated but these aspects alone aren't enough to make an anime worth your time.
Firstly, too much high school kids drama, stuff you just don't want to see in a show that's trying hard to take itself seriously. The show has illustrated many mature post-apocalyptic concepts but were ruined by its immature & unnecessary filler content making the show terribly slow and inconsistent.
Secondly, the way the story and events escalate gives us all the reason to believe a huge twist is coming.. Think again! If you are paying enough attention you can actually predict the "twist" easily before any of its events begin to unfold.. basically there are no "twists" just a few change of events that are highly predictable.
Finally, the thing that might annoy you the most is that the show doesn't know exactly what it's supposed to be.. Is it a fantasy anime about super humans and their journey? Is it a mature anime about rebellions and human evolution? or is it a high-school romantic drama gone south?
All I can say is.. the show was different and unique.. but it's one of those shows that you just want to erase from your mind as soon as the final credits start rolling.
