Like a poor man's Tarantino

Warning: Spoilers
"Restaurant Dogs" is a 1994 short student film written and directed by Eli Roth in his early 20s. Obviously Roth was already a fan of Tarantino, his longtime collaborator later on, when he made this movie here, thus the title reference. And there are more references in here, such as one about "The Deer Hunter". Still, I must say that this film had some really absurd moments, like the Dairy Queen scenes, but none of it was really memorable or precious in terms of being a great movie with a high-quality storyline. It's more a collection of pretty weird snippets and Roth still had a long way to go as a filmmaker at this point, even if this little short film got some awards recognition. I guess it wasn't bad for a 20-year-old. Still, not a good watch. Thumbs down.
