Richard Kiley stars as Deputy Police Commissioner Mark Halperin, who has been called upon for help by a distraught friend and neighbor named Hugh Caldwell(played by Michael McQuire) who has just killed his cheating wife. Halperin, after making the killing look like the work of a burglar, decides to take advantage of the situation by killing his own wife, and also blaming it on the same burglar. Lt. Columbo(Peter Falk) has his doubts about both murders, but how can he pin it on his own superior in the department and keep his job? First-rate entry with Kiley a standout, further aided by a sharp script, and clever twist ending.
