My friend put it this way: This movie is "Dangerous Minds" without the violence and with a positive message.
I showed this to my class of 6th graders at a Title 1 school at the end of a unit about solar energy. The casting is GREAT, the story line is a little hackneyed but typical of the genre, and I had my toughest students on the edge of their seats. One class actually CHEERED, for real.
A great movie for showing in a classroom. There are a few cuss words (s***, b****) but it only adds to the story - these characters are tough kids, and my tough kids relate to them.
