Tries a lot, but the talent lack in most areas

Warning: Spoilers
"Der Mann, der über Autos sprang" or "The Man Who Jumped Over Cars" is a German 105-minute movie from 2010. And even if it is already more than 5 years old, it is still the most recent filmmaking effort by writer and director Nick Baker-Monteys and also his only theatrical release full feature film. The name of the filmmaker does not sound German to me, but this film is and this should also become obvious pretty quickly if you look at the cast list. The two protagonists are played by Robert Stadlober and Jessica Schwarz. Stadlober I am not a fan of at all and I don't think he is good enough for lead roles or has ever been. Jessica Schwarz I like more, but she also did not impress me that much here. She had zero chemistry with Stadlober I must say and this really hurts the film. What also hurts it is that it becomes once again painfully obvious how limited Stadlober is.

The title is certainly a bit pretentious, but the film also does not manager to deliver in terms of the story. Here and there, we have a few good moments, but all in all this was never a convincing artistic achievement. The story feels really unrealistic for the most part and I am fairly certain in real life the main female character would not have had any real interested in the male protagonist. The happy ending felt forced too and I usually hate that if they pick such a path instead of realism. And was up with the audience finding out towards the end that Stadlober's character is actually some kind of lunatic. And we are still supposed to like him? I did not for the entire film. He just seemed stupid and awkward to be, but not in a good way and this applies to the whole movie. I don't recommend the watch.
