Footnotes (2016)

A Footnote to Film History
19 April 2017
I wanted to like this movie more than I did. On the plus side, the lead actress was appealing and was a fully developed character. Her grumpy supervisor was also a solid screen presence. Unfortunately, all of the other actors were two dimensional and uninteresting.

The songs in this musical were rather weak, and the voices were not particularly engaging. The songs were completely a part of the plot and characters, as in 'The Umbrellas of Cherbourg', though not nearly so well done.

The American title, Footnotes, is an overly cute pun -- foot for shoes, notes for musical. I would have stuck with the original title in English, 'Julie and the Shoe Factory'.
