Will vs. The Future (2017– )
8/10
Extremely positively surprised

Warning: Spoilers
"Will vs. The Future" is a 24-minute live action short film from very recently as this one was released less than 3 weeks ago. The director is Joe Nussbaum, who actually has a couple other pretty well-known works under his belt. You can see the names on his profile page. I cannot say I am familiar with any of the 2 writers here, but I see that one of them worked a lot in animation and you can see that here as some scenes, if not the entire film, would have worked as an animated movie too. But it is with actors and that was a good choice. As the core actors are children in here, none of the names will probably appear familiar, but that's not a problem at all because it is much more about the story than about individual performances and still the actors are doing fine. Seeing the poster only, I thought the protagonist in front is a girl and the one in the background is a boy (like the title says), but it is exactly the other way around.

I am generally not a great SciFi fan at all, so maybe the simple but great idea of having one character time travel to keep another from becoming evil really impressed me. But there is also great love to detail, many funny moments in the conversations between the two central characters (those on the photo) and I laughed a lot, which is why I also call it a great comedy film. Fans of the "Back to the Future"-trilogy will also be glad to see a familiar face here. Overall, I could come up with a thousand ideas about what they show and focus on if this Amazon original really should get picked up. I truly hope it does because it was a very creative achievement and I could not take my eyes off the screen from start to finish. Until then (when I can call it a series), it is the best short film from 2017 I have seen so far and it's miles ahead of the other one by Amazon starring a trio of kids on the lookout for aliens. You can clearly see the impact of "Stranger Things" on this year's Amazon prospects. Back to this one here, I give it a thumbs-up and highly highly recommend the watch.
