Within the first 20 mins, we met the characters, witnessed a death, and a kidnapping. There was no time to get to know the main character, to see how she interacted with her husband, to see her bond with her baby. Then suddenly Husband was dead and the baby was gone. We needed more time to settle in. The writing makes it extremely hard to get invested in the characters. Maori culture deserves to be acknowledged on an wider scale and is done beautifully by the cast but the second rate writing lets down what could have been a fantastic series.
