Batman: Arkham Origins (2013 Video Game)
8/10
Not bad. It ain't Arkham City but it don't need to be neither.

Batman: Arkham Origins is the obligatory sequel/prequel to a pre-established franchise in gaming; and while it doesn't reach the highs of its predecessor, Arkham Origins is still ripe entertainment for the picking. The story's pretty solid and Batman's suit in this is GORGEOUS to look at; and the gameplay adds some nice twists to what we've previously seen in the series.

Sure you can tell that A) being a prequel means that certain characters' fates are all-but determined and B) it's going to foreshadow things to come. Arkham Origins delivers on these things in both good and bad ways. It overcomes being a 'stale' prequel and manages to show a less-refined Batman duking it out on the streets of Gotham. The gameplay has some real weight to it just like Arkham City did successfully several times over; though the new elements added in Arkham Origins are rather few and far between in comparison. Does it decreases the experience of playing another solid addition to Arkham Origins? Maybe a little, but this game isn't like the recently crappy Spider-Man movie-tie-in video games.

Arkham Origins is like backstory of a long-running movie franchise: while not whole-heartedly necessary it is nice to know that it's out there and that aspect of the story's been explored. I give Origins an 8/10.
