Anyone whose ever enjoyed a skiing holiday will recognise all the stories told here. You've done that (me on a chair lift, pushing a car out of the snow and getting lost over a cliff edge), so and so did that, they were the horny Italians, that food/drink was dreadful.
Unlike many sports films this is not about champions striving to overcome and still win. It's about a the common man and woman enjoying 2 weeks in the Alps getting some fresh air and winter sun and falling over in the snow, as millions of us do every year.
As others have said it helps to watch the first (inferior) film to understand the characters, but I don't think it is required.
However only 9 stars, because I can think of so many other comic scenes that could be included. Like trying to understand the English trying to speak French, ice skating (skiers can't skate, but they try), tobogganing, curling, torchlight descents ... all good clean stupid fun things that happen on a skiing holiday.
Note, I was listening to the English soundtrack version, 'cause my French isn't good enough. So I may of missed some jokes.
