A tedious but interesting film adaptation of an Elizabethan classic
21 September 2018
A Midsummer Night's Dream is one of the most iconic plays of Shakespeare aside fromRomeo and Juliet and Macbeth. Obviously, with all of the magic and special effects that are easily conveyed in the play comes a difficult task that involved taking the wittiness and comedic aspects of the play and taking this into a movie. I enjoyed how the setting was different to the original Athenian setting, but unless you've read the play then it seems super confusing. All of the four plots are intertwined in a good way in the movie to make it less confusing and more interlocked. While the overacting can be challenging to withstand and listen to, this is definitely part of the theatrical antics of Shakespearean comedy. The special effects aren't daggy (yet) but I enjoyed the classic elements of the film and its relationship to the play.
