Review of Misery

Misery (1990)
9/10
Tense thriller, simple plot, well acted.

Warning: Spoilers
Love this movie and I've watched it a handful of times over the years. Set in a rural upstate snowy mountain town, writer Paul Sheldon finishes work on his latest novel. When leaving his cabin, a storm catches up and he wrecks flying over the edge of a mountain pass burying his car in the snow and immobilizing him. Local resident Annie Wilkes rescues him and he wakes up in her house on a farm. Annie seems very nice and is an unabashed fan of his but slowly her obsessive and unstable side appears after she has read a draft of his latest novel. Paul is unable to really get around. It really gets interesting once he makes several attempts to escape or incapacitate Wilkes. My only real critique is how Sheriff Buster connects the dots to Wilkes holding him captive or at least suspicion of this. There also could have been some added depth and not an 18-month lapse after he finally overcomes Wilkes capture. Still, a top-notch thriller and a great watch during the winter months!
