Review of Pimp

Pimp (2018)
8/10
Unfavourable reviews from petty youths?

Not going to lie, I do love a bleak movie and more than anything this film demonstrated the lack of glamour in the world of pimps hustling to make a buck. Keke Palmer's Wednesday is conflicting and hard to love but she rolls out the part beautifully, Hayley Ramm's long suffering Nikki is also a beautiful character eliciting so much emotion as a girl doing whatever she needs to keep her 'momma' happy and that dream alive. Vanessa Morgan as Destiny is by the numbers and Aunjanue Ellis as Wednesday's mother draws comparisons with Monique's stellar turn in 'Precious'

But the standout for me was Edi Kathegi's amazing run as the unhinged, merciless Psycho Pimp, Kenny! Edi brought some chops.

Whilst this isn't an Oscar winner it deserves a nod for its ambition and its deep characterisations maybe they could have spread that a little further but a good effort nonetheless.
