"Inside 'The Man with the Golden Gun'" is an American English-language behind-the-scenes documentary from 2000, so this one will soon have its 20th anniversary. The director is John Cork and writer is Bruce Scivally and this duo worked (together) on so so many documentaries that elaborate on the making and backgrounds of famous films. Back in 2000, they basically released a series that was about pretty much each and every single James Bond movie, but if you consider watching this one here, then of course you recognized TMwtGG in the title as one of those film starring Roger Moore back in the day. May he rest in peace. But we shall speak about said Bond movie on another occasion. Now is the time to talk about this documentary here. First of all, 30 minutes is more accurate than 35. Well, what can I say here. I really liked two other JB documentaries from the same year by the same people and this one here deserves at least as much praise. It was insightful, inspiring and relevant. Of course, I am a bit biased as I really love the franchise, but I have seen so many weak documentaries elaborating on what happened behind the scenes that had nothing else in mind other than telling audiences how close everybody is with everybody, that they are all friends on set and it's the greatest project for everybody they worked on and, most of all, how brilliant the outcome is. Not so this one. It is never shallow, never boring, never fake. Instead it is delightful and entertaining to watch from beginning to end. Again, I may be biased as I also like the specific Bond film this is about, but nonetheless also from a neutral perspective, they are basically doing everything right. They interviewed the right people, had the right mix of now and then and most of all got me in the mood to watch The Man with the Golden Gun right away. Sadly, I don't have the time now. But I'll keep the idea in my head and I still hope to get a chance to see this and other Bond films on the big screen again. For old time's sake. 4 stars out of a5 and a very positive recommendation. Watch it, not only if you wanna know who was picked to play Scaramanga initially, but refused the role. And many other interesting snippets you will find in here. Go for it!
